Remote External BM Transmission filter
I had a couple questions on external filters. I was thinking of adding a BM Remote Transmission filter kit w/ a WIX 51622 Transmission filter and a Magnefine Forcefield Pre-Filter after my cooler. I know I need to watch my flow rate should I be worried about having to much restriction with what I am looking at or just stick with the normal in-line Magnefine filter after the transmission.
The truck was purchased used w/ 136k miles and a rebuilt ford transmission ( don’t know when but has the ford rebuilt sticker still on it w/ barcode ) and 6.0 cooler already installed w/ a inline Magnefine filter post cooler.
Get two containers. Remove the line going to the rear of the trans. Put the line in one container. Have someone start the truck, leaving it at idle and in park. Once the flow is steady move the line to the second container for exactly 15 seconds and then move it back to the first container. Shut the engine off.
If fluid sprayed out of the transmission where the line is disconnected it fails the flow test. If there is less than a quart of ATF in the second container it also fails.
If the test fails remove the filter and get rid of it.
This will be a 2 filter test. Ill post the results in case someone else wants to give it a try.
The theory for this a few things
1. Extra cooling via the filter ( probably a 5-6 degree drop )
2. Extra filter fords is like a pass through from what I have read.
3. Change the extra filter every 10k or so miles and the Magnefine will catch all metal flakes in theory.
Or am I just way over complicating/thinking things ? I have heard so many bad things about the 4R100 and wished I had a torqueshift 5r110 it is a much better transmission. I purchased the truck used with 136xxx miles and it already had a rebuilt transmission so this multiples my fears.
