besides water in it,would it be the resistors in general,faulty circuit board design,inferior components or cheap quality.just curious cause its interestin that some last awhile without getting soaked or is there a general mileage rule of thumb as far as how lon they last.I wouldnt want to140 mod a idm that some tinkering would be a waste of time or damage brittle components.any thouhts on here,couldnt find any threads other than modding.

 

Hot rodding it causes it to fail. Just kidding, I'm just giving you a bump. I did the 140 mod three years ago and haven't had any problems but I have a spare, LOL.

 

Crap happens to electronics .. I screwed mine up by shorting the hot side of the IPR ......

 

I think its from component failure from age. Most if the solid state components only have a certain hour rating for a particular output. Over time components get weak until something gives which can be caused from a surge in power or a short in the system.

 

Wonder what the rebuild places do,just test them and fix the faulty stuff or put in a new circuitboard in the old housing and toss the old one.I bought a rebuilt one last year on ebay for $100 and got a one year warranty and its been great so far.
