so the other day i took the EGR Valve out to clean and upon putting the bolts back in i broke the head off of one, then i went and got a back out bit and tried to get it out but the drill bit slid off the bolt and went in next to it...(it was starting to get dark) so my question is, Is there any reason i couldnt drill it out with a bigger bit and retap the hole for a bit or am i screwed?
Looks like there is plenty of meat around it to go a size larger. Or use a helicoil. Sounds like you already had a cluster f*** around it, so this time lay off the beer and take your time.
The valve would probably stay in there just fine with only one bolt.
lol i only had one in me at the time but thanks....i tried driving it with one in tightened down all the way and the other side kept blowing black soot everywhere and it def didnt run right...thanks for the info though.
Make SURE when you drill the oversize hole that ALL of the broken bolt is removed. If you leave a crescent of bolt embedded in the side of the hole it will move when you tap the oversize threads and perfectly lock the tap in the hole. At this point you will break the tap trying to remove it and have to chip the rest of it out in pieces. I'm just saying......
