cam phasers

cam phasers
I am very disappointed now 05 150 w 5.4 is turning into money pit got this weird sound turns out to be the cam phasers and the plugs have never been changed. the cost is less then 5 bills from new engine this really sucks. So now I am screwed and this could be my last ford and I will bad mouth them to the grave..no reason to design an engine that actually has these faults built into them. As you can tell I am P---ed off over this. because by the time I get done replacing everything I might as well take loss on truck and buy different one as I take beating either way.
So now for why I posted not just to rant.
I would like to know if there are good after market replacements and how much I should actually be looking for labor costs? I do not have the time for job like this.

I would get a hold of a Powertrain and Emission Control shop manual and follow the diagnostic routines for the codes or symptoms before replacing parts. It's too expensive to just "throw" parts at it and hope you get lucky and it's fixed. And remember, it's almost always cheaper to fix what you have than to replace what you have.

I am not trying to through parts at it I am trying to learn. I am upset Ford actually knows all about the issue and have made no effort to make good repairs available or good replacement parts. when you are done you are in same boat as when you started. that is with the cam phasers, spark plugs and some vibration issues.

Raddy, I would find a good reputable independent shop in your area and get an estimate on phasers and plugs. And I agree with you that Ford should man up and cover these repairs because of their poor design. I have an 06 5.4L and haven't had any engine problems. But I have had to replace the driver side and passenger side power window switches. And now I have that vibration when applying the brakes that's coming from the rear. It's most likely the emergency brake not releasing. But it's a real pain having to stay up with these little repairs. It is especially irritating on a truck with only 48,000 miles on the odometer. But at least I'm not looking at major $ going out for repairs like I would be had I kept my 05 SD PSD 6.0L. Everyone I know who owns a Dodge or GM has had more problems than I have with the worst Ford I've ever owned. And to own a Toyota would be an act of treason in my opinion. One othewr thing that you might want to check out would be the fuel injector. Ford had enough problems with 04 and 05 injectors that they have extended the warranty on them.
