Tail Gate removal
I kind of feel like an idiot, as it seems about the most basic thing to do. I even went and looked at the owner's manual to see if there was a special trick. I put it a 45 degree angle, and the right side slides off the peg. Then I tilt it to about 80 degrees and try to slide off the left side. No luck. I've even taken a hammer with a piece of wood to knock it off. Nor has PB blaster helped.
There appears to be a round part that is supposed to rotate with the tailgate. Instead, it is frozen to the pivot pin, and tailgate rotates on the crimped connection.
Suggestions?
Now raise the gate back up until it is almost closed.
This will relive the twist of the torsion rod.
Pivot the right end away from the truck to a point where you can pull the gate sideways to the right. The left end should now slide out of the socket that the torsion rod engages.
