I have a 2005 F250, 5.4L 4x4. Have had codes pop up for a bad coil on # 7 cylinder replaced it, then at a diffrent time had a code for #2 coil replaced that too. later it showed the #2 again so i switched my new #2 coil with the #1 trying to create an issue on the #1 just to see if it was an issue not of the coils, drove down the road and the #7 coil poped a code again... I have a lack of power and its no doubt missing, my idle is speratic. I have been to 3 Ford dealers and a goodyear nobody can find an issue they just replace coils and tell me im good. the truck has 85k miles does any body have an idea whats going on?
I replaced the plugs on the 5.4 motor in an Expedition that had about 140k on it. (I know I should not have waited so long) Afterwards I had at least three different cylinders have the coils crap out. Not sure why it did this just after servicing the plugs but the shop I use said coil packs are a common problem. Not sure I offered any real help but....
I ask only because after I replaced my plugs with Bosch I started getting cop failures on random cyls replaced cop 2days later cop failure on same cyl! Replaced plugs with AUTOLITE as recommended by a tech who does a high volume of repairs, and I have not seen a cop failure code since!....just sayin!

That's interesting... The dealer replaced my plugs so I am not sure what brand. The failures seem to be subsiding now that we have put some more miles on the car. Probably a wise choice to simply go with the recommendation of the tech.
I had a fuel injector go bad, it was under ford recall they replaced that and the catylic converters because they got clogged from the injector. at that time i had them replace the plugs about 83k, drove out of there had a coil pop bad on the way home. Its been a battle as i discribed earlier, I replaced the crank shaft sensor just as a guess last week drove it still had some issue. the truck spits and struggles out of the gate and an over all lack of power even in higher rpms. it tossed a running too lean code that autozones obd2 said either oxegen sensor, ignition or fuel injector. i bought the o2 sensors because thats the easiest and quickest option plus they didnt replace em when the cats were replaced. Im crossing my fingers... gonna put them on tommarow. Also i have a push button start installed that ties right to the ignition some how, couple that with the other problems Im wearing thin.
Thanks for the support
perhaps my problem has been something like the new code said and the coils just happened to go out in and around my many times to a dealer, they replace a coil clear codes and dont drive it far enough to make it toss another, cant say my faith in the 3 local dealers is very high right now
How about replacing the rubber boots over the plugs? They could be cracked and when you hit a puddle of water, water gets in and shorts it (misfire). You replace the COP, runs good when it doesn't rain. Then when it rains, splash, and then zap! Now water got into another plug hole and coincidentally, the boot is cracked, too.
well my last code was a p0171 which is bank one i assume thats the side with cylnder 1 and with that comes a host of possibilites, vacume leaks fuel pressure, exaust leaks,HO2 sensors and much more. I have all of fords factory manuals but not the computer program that coincides directly w information in the books. One strange issue is my OBD2 ports fuse blows frequenly. Since right now im throwing codes on only one bank i conclude that it is not a MAF sensor or a fuel issue because it would likely cause trouble on both banks equally. I do however have a leak in the exaust around the manifold and cat y pipe junction Its tight but seems a like it was tightened down out of skelter. Its a flare and ball kind of connection. I inadvertinty ran across a post on obd sensors.com where a guy had the same issue minus the exaust leak on bank 2, im not a member there so i didnt respond. I intend to get the computerprogram that reads the codes real time and thus takes away an guess work
