03-05' 6.0L Excursion!?!
GET an ODBII gauge (scanguage2/SGII or equiv) so you can TELL
if something is wrong before it becomes more expensive.
I've had mine Ex for 11 months and the SGII for 9 months and
they are both great.
I had an issue with a partially blocked oil cooler, which I budgeted for
and had the full bulletproof system installed when it was convenient.
W/o the SGII I'd have driven it until *maybe* someday it had white
exhaust and I'd be one of those nay-sayers. But thanks to FTE I
knew something was up and could fix it w/o getting stranded, or
blowing the head gaskets.
My oasis showed:
FICM harness replaced, EGR valve (twice), and a cam sensor
(don't recall which off-hand)
Those are several of the common issues that come up regularly,
so hopefully the prior owner & Ford took care of them for me too.
Still, that doesn't mean every 6oh will have any of these happen.
I'll be upgrading my front springs and installing the RAS shortly too...
I would say, do a test drive if it handles "well" and the interior is in good
shape and you like it - just be prepared it "might" cost you 2-5k
*IF* something goes wrong.
As others have said, the 6oh is well understood now by most, and
as a result I believe it's a good long-term investment. Also, the
newer vehicles have so much electronics/emissions controls I can
only imagine how expensive THEY will be in the future to repair.
I fixed my overhead lie-o-meter with a soldering tool
- AND the knowledge from FTE!
It IS the vehicle we took everywhere on trips, around town...
LOVED the power and size (but the wife could STILL fill it up!)
Now that she has a new Audi Q5 small suv for her daily commute, we run around town in it, but still take the Ex for my driving and ANY long trip...
While the Audi is nice with ALL the bells and whistles, one long trip in it and we voted for the Ex on all the rest !
Not sure I want to ever give it up....
You talk about cost of maintenance on a vehicle that listed @ $40 to $55K ?
The Audi community would laugh at you !!!
(In my best Thurston Howell, III voice
"It's part of the ownership experience"
the snobs there would say

will bring a smile to the face of those that remember it fondly !
