This is no different from their policy all along: installation and use does not void a warranty but they will deny a warranty claim caused by an aftermarket component.

It's the "Catch 22" thing, like the TV descramblers. It's not illegal to sell them to the general public, but it's a $5,000 fine if you get caught with one. Might be a bad comparison. Didn't I read somewhere in here that the after market filters being used are actually more efficient at filtering? Like the NAPA, Donaldson etc? So in reality, I could go to a dealer for a problem and if the problem wasn't caused by let's say the air filter, it's NOT going to void anything by just having it on there? I have another post in the "Tymar" like thread, so I'll keep the rest of my silly questions over there after this one.

Thanks

I used the AFE oiled filter for 2 weeks and after the dealer told me about the warranty problem removed the filter only to find that yes in fact dirt had been slipping past the filter and that the sensor in the box was getting oiled. I live in northern Montana where dirt and dust can be an issue so filtering is a priority. Since the sensors are about $100 to replace if you break one cleaning it, and since dirt was getting around the filter seal I figured better safe than sorry. To anticipate the questions, yes it was installed properly and yes it was oiled following instructions. The dealer also stated that IF I had motor problems the first thing the ford rep would do is open the airbox and check for dirt, if dirt was found in the system and I had a non-OEM filter warranty would be denied so you are correct that having the filter alone would not void the warranty but you had better be sure that your system is clean if you take it in for a problem. All I am saying is that it is my understanding you are giving them the ability to deny warranty if you install these items and I am sure they will use it.
We're not talking about just a different brand name filter here. The whole entire filter housing, air box, is being removed to accommodate the new style cylindrical filter and that, I think they can give you grief over, but as stated, only if you have a failure and they can prove it was due to the modification, which I'm sure, they could with their team of lawyers. If you don't mind me asking, where is Robbinsville, I'm from NJ also, but never heard of it?
Robbinsville is in Mercer county, it's also known as Washington Township. Since there are so many Washington's in NJ, they are going to rename the town. Where in NJ are you from?
