I have a 96 E350 Club Wagon with 140k miles with a pecular problem. The vehicle runs perfectly straight (go down the road and take hands off the wheel and it stays straight). When I hit the brakes however I pulls. At first it was to the left, but after convincing me I had a caliper hanging up, it changed sides and is now pulling to the right. I also noted that, if upon the very initial part of the braking, I correct the steering in the opposite direction, that the rest of the stop is nice and straight.
This problem came up just after doing a brake job. I did the brakes due to soft pedal. Because of the soft pedal, I replaced the master cylinder and vacuum booster. I now feel that they were fine because during the process I also did new shoes on the back and pads on the front. I found broken spring in the rear drum and adjuster rolling around in the bottom of the drum, all replaced with new. After all this was done and I finally got a good bleed the brake pedal is back at the top. But the pulling is either new or more pronounced because of the better pedal.
I do believe I need to do king pins, because I am able to get a slight "klunk" when horsing the front wheel around. Also, all steering linkage is new about 4 months ago.
