Well, if Ranger 80 confirms he doesn't have those two connectors at the bottom of the dash, then I'd say it was a mid year change.
If Ranger 80 has those connectors, then I'd say it was a updated part that can fit the older 1980 with the correct clock harness. Ford is notorious for updating parts and part numbers etc...
I'll have a look-see in my 1980 service manuals and see what I can find. They were published mid year 1979, so if there is a difference, it should show it.
Dad's (9/80 build) and Rusty (10/80) both have those connectors, as I'm sure you would expect. Had my hands on them today in fact. (And, they have amber turn signals. )
you shouldnt need to cut and splice wires your looking for a light grey plug in that resembles a lego with 4 wires attatched and will only plug in 1way i have an 81 F-100 also ifound mine laying on the amidst a bundle of wires
