From the wiring diagram on the 1st page of this thread it looks like several options are powered by that wire, inc the underhood light, clock, and glove box light. If your truck didn't come w/any of those options it is possible no fuse was installed at the factory. Or, maybe that fuse is blown? Look at the inside of the fuse cover, IIRC, and it should show which fuse that is.
The fuse is a blue one. I believe it's located at the bottom middle of the fuse box. The label is "courtesy lights". On my truck, it powered the dome light and the clock.
Be careful, I blew this fuse two times installing my clock via Gary Lewis' method. I guess I should've been more careful putting the metal prongs into the plastic plug.

Boy, that's something to be known for - a dangerous and reckless approach to clock wiring. I'll bet my son the lawyer would have told me to add "disconnect the battery before you take my father's advice". Sorry guys, I should have added that step.
Thanks for all the responses it was just a burned out fuse after all right after I posted that I realized I neglected to check the fuses I just assumed it wasnt hooked up because I quickly pulled the fuse box off the fire wall and didnt see the light green wire back there but it was just all dirty and looked more brownish tell I wiped it off
Haha no I made sure I didnt short out any wires I think my brother (the previous owner of the truck) blew the fuse when he was working on it messing with the dome light.
i pulled a clock from an 83 f250 before i scrapped it but didnt take time to salvage the connector that it plugged into. Aside from a scrapyard, can i buy that somewhere?
As 81-Explorer said, the connector can only be found at the junkyard. However, you can still find the wiring terminal ends that fit into the connector at Napa.
so since i didnt salvage the pigtail when i salvaged the clock when trying to wire it i have this dilema. the male ends that remain on the clock have colors marked on the plastic housing but they arent the same as the colors mentioned earlier in this thread.
can someone tell me what colors go where? when looking at the back of the clock, from top to bottom i have:
BL = Blue = Light Green/Yellow
BR = Brown = Brown
BK = Black = Black
W = White = White/Purple
I HIGHLY advise going to the wreckers and getting a clock harness. They are very cheap and easy to find, (In either pickups or broncos), will have the connectors, and will eliminate all this guesswork and wiring work. It will plug and play.
Guys, I know this is an old thread, but I'm a bit lost on this one. Yesterday morning I pulled the clock out of an '82 F150 to replace the malfunctioning unit in my '80 F100. It appears to me that the clock was another one-year-wonder for the 1980, somebody please correct me if I'm wrong here. My reasoning is that although the one in my '80 and the '81-'82 I just got are similar, they are not exact. For example, the one on the '80 doesn't say "RESET" beside the two buttons on the right, and it appears the display is slightly different than the '81-'82. Also, when I pulled the '82 clock, I couldn't find anywhere it plugged into the main harness, so I clipped the wires waaaay under the dash, whereas my '80 clock plugged in right underneath the dash pad using a 4-pin trailer connector (indeed a trailer connector, I reused it and some new 4-pin connectors to make a custom radio harness), that I know for a fact is factory. Also, the wires on the '80 clock run from the male plug then directly into the unit, where the newer one has a plug on the unit itself. Finally, the new clock has a serial number starting with "E1TF", indicating it's style began manufacture in 1981 and did not exist in 1980 correct? I can post pics of the differences I'm talking about if it helps.
Well, I certainly feel an odd sense of accomplishment lol...
Just for good measure here, I'll post pics of the differences in case anybody in the future stumbles across this and is left to wonder:
Here you can see the differences in the connectors between the '80 (left) and the '81-'82 (right):
And here is the verification of the different serial numbers:
I'm not doubting NumberDummy's post earlier in this thread, I'm just assuming it's possible that the "E1TF" could have be listed as a direct replacement for "E0TF". At least the wire color and dimming function remains the same between the two.
Sure looks odd with that trailer connector. And, the connector on the truck looks original as well? Those '80 trucks sure were different. Odd. Unusual.
