keyless entry

i was thinking about swapping over the remote keyless wiring harness and module from my 1997 to 1996 trucks both are psds and 1996 is a 4x4 while the 1997 is 4x2 would there be any snags i would hit if i do this? i have everything needed to do this.

is the 96 ele locks allready?if so most trucks i've seen with ele locks had the stuff there to use the fob on.i may be wrong on it but look under the dash think its a grey plug you have to jump to program you fob to the truck. i just found the plug after reading on here on some older post and picked up a fob and got it to work for me
good luck

even if it has electric locks, you will have to swap over alot of wiring. alot of things run through the keyless entry box. lights, horn, locks... after having done my conversion, i found out the door lock wiring is very differnt

I would suggest just buying an aftermarket system. They are easy to put in. Simple ones are available for less than $40.

If you don't care about the horn honking or the lights blinking you don't have to tap into those wires.

i agree, even the aftermarket systems will allow for the lights and horn. most of them hook up to everything right under the dash

I think so, it's been awhile. I think you would have to swap all the wiring up to the firewall and possibly splice it at the doors because I think they have different plugs

An aftermarket is easier because Ford wired the RKE trucks different. The aftermarket units are configurable to work with any kind of door lock wiring.

How can you tell if they had it or not, my 94.5 has a theft light that blinks on the dash, and if i open a door that has been locked without the key my lights flash like an alarm is going off, and i have to put the key in the lock to get it to stop, it also has elec locks.

The trucks without factory keyless entry used much different 5 wire reverse polarity wiring. Just use an aftermarket set up.To swap the OEM one is way to much work and it is not that great of a system.

Nope the entire interior wiring harness is different. My friend strokersace found this out the hard way trying to do exactly what you are doing... PM him and he might chime in.
