1996 Keyless Entry Add
Hello Gents,
I have a '96 XLT and I would like to add the factory keyless entry. Has anyone done this?
The factory electric locks are already there, and I assume it's the same harness for all trucks with or without keyless. Can I just find a transmitter/receiver set and plug it in?
Thanks!

It probably DID, but the thieves stripped all the easy-to-remove stuff, which is why I was able to buy a '96 & part it out!

I have a 95 F150 XLT with Power Locks - I took the dash apart and started comparing the wiring I had to the wiring in the manuals and sure enough non Keyless Entry locks are different. I was hoping to plug and play a factory module so it looked stock but you can with doing so pretty custom wiring which I don't have time for now I may get around to it some day. If you are interested though the best place to access your door lock wires in a non-keyless truck is behind the passager kick panel.

A better system is the Bulldog R114 keyless entry/remote starter. $50 at Sam's Club.

How good is the range on the Bulldog? I have had a clifford unit and a code-alarm unit. The clifford was a dog for range, never more than 30ft...even with a new battery. Code-alarm is an OEM supplier, that baby would hit even at 150ft and I never changed the battery.

I've put them in my mother's Grand Marquis, my brother-in-law's Bronco, and my girlfriend's MR-2. All had great range, but I never tested them. It never failed when I could see the vehicle, but their website should tell the nominal range. It's a really nice kit with EVERYTHING you need, including internal relays, a video, a knife, zip ties, tape, splicing instructions, wiring colors, and even a spiffy little LED test light!
At $50, it's an outstanding deal compared to ANY keyless entry ONLY system. If you have a manual transmission, you can't use the starter function safely, but it's still cheap and good.
