Question Plugged Wastegate

Well got a little bored so decided to monkey around with the ats turbo i just put on. I took the hose off the wastegate and put a bolt in it to block it. seemed to be a little better. i didnt push it very hard but seemed to get to higher boost quicker. I dont think i have enough fuel going through to worry about really high numbers so wasnt that concerned

the test i did was hold 55mph in OD, then hit the OD off button and give it a bit more fuel: (not pushing hard almost like merging on to freeway)

wastegate hooked up: 1psi boost at 55 then instant 4psi, little more pedal got to 7psi

wastegate plugged: 1psi boost at 55 then instant 6psi, little more pedal got to 8.5psi

the most boost ive achieved in the past has been 12 with pedal pretty much floored, at night time about 57*f. Today is 80*f so ill try tonight and see what i get to.

****QUESTION: what if i took the rod off and wired the flapper (?) on the turbo open (or shut ?) ?? any thoughts??

in the mean time i will be fabbing up a cold air intake style box to go around the 6637 filter

the cowl is a high pressure area.ever give cowl induction cold air system a consideration? i have a feeling you'd like the results.
pretty easy to make yourself if you don't want to buy the kit.ever see my homemade setup?
(im n/a though, and cant help with boost #'s.but from those who have switched to cowl induction with turbos all claimed impressive boost gains.)

be sure to read the whole thread.that cheap dryer duct collapsed shortly after install and she rolled coal up a mountain on me lol.

I know I would too, I've heard you preaching that for years it seems like lol right now its straight metal tube to the 6637 by the radiator resivoir, I took the stock plastic piece that goes between hood and grill then. Cut it and stuck a end against the filter and other end at the grill opening after removal of radiator support. So maybe getting somewhat of a ram air effect? Im just trying to think how id make cowl set up with this filter

last night did the max boost run and...... it was at 10psi and climbing when the hose on the boost gauge popped out down on the snail hat.

<a href="http://s1095.photobucket.com/albums/i463/91dirtydiesel/?action=view&amp;current=6637a.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i1095.photobucket.com/albums/i463/91dirtydiesel/6637a.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>

got a rough draft of the cold air set up done, need to trim it to length but you get the idea

<a href="http://s1095.photobucket.com/albums/i463/91dirtydiesel/?action=view&amp;current=6637.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i1095.photobucket.com/albums/i463/91dirtydiesel/6637.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>

and this is what i was talkin bout earlier about the "ram" air,

<a href="http://s1095.photobucket.com/albums/i463/91dirtydiesel/?action=view&amp;current=6637b.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i1095.photobucket.com/albums/i463/91dirtydiesel/6637b.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>

with the combination of all those things it dropped the egt's down about 50-75 so im pleased with it.

will update soon

i also plugged my hose on my waste gate, i used a ball bearing in the hose. i have the understanding that the waste gate can still move even with this hose blocked off? does that sound right? is their any pros or cons to this or will wiring the waste-gate be better or worse? normally don't push it past 12psi but while passing a vehicle i was in it all the way and she made ~15psi ~100mph i have not touched the fuel yet and not sure if i will with those numbers and no head studs

you need more fuel if it took 100mph to hit 15psi.

Iowa's max speed limit is only 70 mph.
Speed limits in the United States - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

you should be careful.even if you were in a 70 mph zone, that's still 30 mph over the limit and 25 mph over in Iowa = Suspension of driving privileges/Serious violation: If you are convicted of, or pled guilty to, speeding 25 miles or more over the legal speed limit.
Iowa's Driver Improvement Program (DIP) - Iowa Motor Vehicle Division

not to mention it's just foolishly risking your life and others on the road.
i don't mean to preach, but if you listen i could be saving your or someones life so it would foolishness wrong of me not to say something.i'll sleep at night knowing i said something if i read about/see ya on the news now.

If you lock out the WG (closed) it will not bleed off boost. They come adjusted to bleed off at 7.5-9psi. With a stock pump i doubt it will go much over 15, maybe 20

Because of the CDR putting oil in the intake. Somewhat normal, however the WG should still move.

I safety wired mine shut. I am running head studs and a R&D Stage 1 turbo cam though not really worried about over pressurizing it.
