Help Identifying Transmission

Hope this is the right forum, so here it goes. This is in a motorhome,1993 Ford chassis, 460 engine. Motorhome is 34ft, has duallies with 4.56 gears. Pretty sure the trans is a 4spd O.D but which one? E4OD?? Reason I ask is I'd like to put one into a 79 F-350 with a 460 that has 4.11 gears. I think it definetly need overdrive. My plans for the F-350 are to pull an RV. Whaddya all think???

There is a VERY good chance it is an E4OD....

The only problem with putting an E4OD in an older vehicle is an E4OD is computer controlled (all shifts are electrically controlled) by the same computer that controls the engine.

There is a stand alone trans controller that will do the job, but, it is around $500 + -.......

There is an overdrive unit ( can't recall the name right now) that will work with your current transmission but again the cost is up there...

Not much help here but at least it got back to the top so maybe someone smarter will see it.....

On the gear shifter, there should be a OD override button if it's a E4OD installed and has not been changed out.

The only automatic overdrive Ford EVER installed with a 460 was the E4OD.

Thanks

For all your replies. Sounds like this idea of mine needs more thought and research. I'm not trying to dump a bunch of $$$ into this project, unless I can score something off Craigslist for cheap....

I'm thinking your best bet for the '79 would be to find a later doner truck that had the 460 and E4OD, then change out the entire engine/E4OD along with the wiring harness and fuel system.. This will be a LOT of work and grief but it can be done..

I'm sure there are several other ways to accomplish your plan, but this "might" be a good plan IF you could find a wrecked truck for REAL cheap..
