I have a 2011 F-350 Lariat, build date is May/10 and I have learned through these forums how to test if I have the upgraded 400/800 flash by pressing the + button while in Drive to allow the select shift gear display of gears 1-6 on my screen to appear, then shut off truck, turn back on, put into drive again and if it has the new flash it should show the gear display of 1-6. I did this test and found out I did not have the flash upgrade so I took it to ford today.
They first told me that I already had the upgrade, I didn't believe them so I told them about how the new flash should have the SelectShift memory feature so the SelectShift gear display comes back on whenever going back into drive if the vehicle was turned off while SelectShift mode was still activated and that MY truck doesn't have this feature. They looked it up and found it on the TSB and told me I was right so the tech went out and did the upgrade on my truck. After waiting about a half an hour he was done and I drove off thinking I had the upgrade installed. Well when I got home I tried the little gear shift memory display trick again and It did NOT work, wtf???
Heres the weird thing. The tech actually gave me a paper showing that he installed a flash upgrade. Well which upgrade did I get??? On the paper is says
Current software version: IDS-74.04
PCM
Current level in Vehicle: BC3A-12A650-ERA
Change to: BU7A-12A650-DAA
Do these numbers mean anything to anyone??? Any ford techs on this site. Definitely gonna go back to the dealership but thought I'd ask here first to see if anyone knows anything. Thanks
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
go back out and start it put it in gear. and see what it does. if not on tap the +button on shifter. it should work from then on. but you can keep tapping the button and cancel it till next restart if not wanted on.
74.04 is the latest IDS release which just came out on 08/24/11 and would definitely have the 400/800 calibration. Any IDS release 72.01A and higher has the 400/800 calibration...
There's another sure fire way to tell. You should notice a very distinct improvement in shifting pattern under moderate to heavy acceleration. If you didn't use all the power before you may not tell that way, but the shifting pattern and smoothness was also a great improvement.
IMHO I wish Ford would let me program their shifting pattern/parameters!! I still just don't get it why it's still as bad as it is, ........... just sayin. Okay, I'm complaining , .......... walking away from the computer in 3 2 1
