04' v10 cc f250 fuel gage stop working.. Ran it low to top of red just above E. Parked truck for about 5 days then put 7 gals in it. Gage didnt move i figured that it would move to just below 1/4.. but anyways so i added 5 gals more still wont move even up to the E.. Any ideas. Is the part that could be bad the fuel sending unit. I though it was called a float but couldnt find the part on rock auto..
Its part of the sending unit. Only two things can cause the gauge to stop working. The sending unit or a bad ground. Depending on how many miles you got you might as well replace the pump while your at it.
Check the wiring to the sending unit. It runs in a bundle of wires on the left inner fender and down the left frame rail. Same thing happened to mine a few months ago. Found that some type of rodent had chewed the wire in two places. If yours has sat for a while that could be a likely cause.
Well I will start with the easiest, banging the tank.. Then checking wires, then if those dont work I will have to replace sending unit.. I am a poor low ranking soldier in the army.. So I think I will have to wait on replacing the pump..
You will need to drop the tank, I just went through this on my truck. There is one wire on the sending unit that broke at the solder joint. I would try to resolder the wire. I replaced the sending unit because I purchased it before I dropped the tank. If I had known about the single wire it would of saved me $200 at the dealer. Hope this helps
mine sticks somtimes...except it sticks at full or will show full out of nowhere when its not full. once i fill it up again though, all the way i have no issues. very intermittent problem for me.
