So, I replaced everything. fuel sending unit, installed elect. fuel pump, fuel lines, filters, etc. wired the fuel pump, it made a lot of noise and didnt do anything. checked to make sure the sending unit wasnt plugged. unhooked a hose from right after the pump and stuck the other end into a plastic pop bottle, again, nothing happened but a lot of noise. Do these things typicaly make much noise, and how much pressure should they be? The guy at Autozone said 5-7psi. but I'm thinking it should be more than that.
on a seperate note.... my fuel gauge still isnt working with the new send. unit. If I put a jumper wire from one lead to the other, it pegs full. any ideas?
Not moving fuel: if the tank can't vent, fuel won't move. Check that first.
Sending unit: Let me get this straight - you are running a jumper from the sending unit signal lead, to the sending unit ground, and the gauge pegs? If that is the case, the sending unit rheostat is faulty or the float is punctured. I was going to say your ground was probably bad, but if you jump the sending unit lead to the ground used by the sending unit and the gauge pegs, the ground is good.
we pulled the vent out and we could blow air through it, pulled the gascap off so it could vent there and nothing happened. so you think the sending unit rheostat is bad? th;e float is some kind of plastic block, its not a drum float. I dont know.
Try measuring the sending unit resistance with a multimeter; that'll tell you for sure. If it's open-circuit, the gas gauge will be dead. Maybe your fuel pump is bad? Where is it mounted? Maybe it can't siphon.
Some "fatherless person" siphoned the gas from my truck, it was full the other day when we worked on it, it was empty earlier today, before we filled it back up, and moved it to a better area.
Although we got the fuel figured out (so we think) We're still having problems. It has all the power in the world and runs great, for about the first half hour of running. Then it starts acting up again. It lurches and acts wierd once it's warmed up and your driving it, and it wants to die. But, at an idle, it acts normal. what do you guys think? Its realy got us stumped!!!
what are the chances its the carb. or the coil? or am I thinking in the wrong direction all together? lol
The choke could be sticking. Make sure it's open. Check timing and vacuum advance. I wouldn't waste my time with the coil, but do a resistance check on the windings if it makes you feel better.

choke is fine, is ok, how would vacuum advance change enough to kill the motor under a load, but not while revving up in park?
Because in park, the motor is not under a load. Totally different ballgame. Check your base timing with a light and just verify that the advance is moving when you apply vacuum. How do your plugs look?
