A few days ago my fuel filter light came on so I changed the filter. Next day light came on again and when the light was on the motor was running a bit rough even died once. Put diesel kleen in the tank and about 2 miles from the store the light went off and hasn't came on since. However when i crank the truck it cranks fine but idles rough and will die if i dont press the pedal but after revving for a few seconds (about 30-45) it runs fine at all rpms no problems. I am new to diesel but love it so far so any help will be highly appreciated. the truck is a 94 f350 7.3 no turbo
How old are your injectors and injection pump? It sounds like you have 1 or more injectors that are bad or your injection pump might me allmost ready to die. When you start the truck does it put out some white smoke? does is smoke white while you hold the throttle during that 30-45 sec? Does it do this once the truck is warmed up and then shut off and restarted or only on the first start of the day?
Mine would do the same thing on cold starts during winter. had them pop tested, turns out i had 4 bad injectors.
It would be worth it to check you glow plugs as well. how long does the WTS light stay on?
Could be air intrusion as well. how old are te return lines and caps?
Just the truck that IDIDieseljohn is looking for, sounds like oyu might have another issue with the either the injectors, injection pump, or the lift pump....
I agree with what 94IDITurbo is saying, something aint right with the injectors, although a bad lift pump is the less likely of the three, if it was failing, it would give those symtoms. I put my money towards injectors, or lift pump.

is your $$$ on the lift pump or the injection pump. you post confused me.

If it's a 5 speed, i'm gonna need his address....
OP - does sound like tired injectors.
I'd recommend a full tune up! What's the mileage on the truck? if over 150k miles, a fresh set of injectors, and new Injector Pump, and maybe even a lift pump, and that truck will feel like a completely different beast!
The truck has over 250k on it as far as I know every thing is original(injectors, ip ect.) the truck does put out white smoke as I am trying to crank the truck second time after it dies the second crank takes longer to start. the trucks first crank cranks right up. Does it only on first start after engine cools not if engine is still warm. Also what is involved in a tune up
If you are 250K on the original set, then you are lucky to have gotten this far. Post a picture of your IP and injectors installed on the truck and we can tell you if they are original or not.
The fuel system overhaul is replacing the IP, injectors, return lines, setting the timing, and sometimes the lift pump if it is original.
ricky welcome to FTE !!!!! and to the DARKSIDE !!!
Hey Eaton how ya doin buddy?? hows yur truck holdin up???
Hey Vic,
My truck idles rough still. It has more shake to it than it should. I am thinking it is an injector due to process of elimination. If I feel energetic this weekend, I will pull the injectors and next week, have them tested. If it is not the injectors, I am out of ideas.
Anyway. Ricky, I am about to reply to your PM with my E-mail address.
yesterday i took the filter off it was about 3/4 full (not sure if this is normal)
I put it back on and the next 3 cranks so far no rough idling but the fuel filter light still comes on when driving. Should i replace the lift pump?
