Alright guys, I have one more question about my 300. I've decided to skip the paint and get a new cam instead. This is my first complete rebuild, so I won't even pretend to know where to start with picking one out. In the end I would like to increase power but not totally kill gas mileage. This engine is going in a '67 f100. I won't be racing it, I just want good power and speed. Any suggestions for a decent cam/lifter set would be much appreciated! FYI: so far I have an offy dp intake, holley street avenger 670, and split exhaust manifolds. Also, the block is from a '92 and I'm using the head from my 240. Thanks for the help.
Check the on line catalogs...Comp, Crower, Isky, etc.,...call or Email their Tech Departments, tell them what you have and what your intended use for your truck is. They will make recommendations.
I would imagine you will need to jet down that carb too.
I guess I shouldn't talk. I'm putting a 750 cfm Q.jet on mine, ha ha.
If you get an Isky cam, I would say not to use their v.springs. For some reason they want you to use their double springs with 134 psi at the seat. That much pressure had my locks failing after about 5k miles. That is not something I would like to repeat.
I ended up ordering a comp 260 cam/lifter kit from summit. Should I be replacing the springs as well?
Each mfr. will want a diff. seat psi on the valves for a particular cam. Call Comp and ask them what springs, psi, and installed height you need for that cam. Then pass the info to your machinist and make sure the checks those things. With the springs get new retainers and keepers too. Timing gears too.

That's interesting. I've been thinking about building a new engine and I was thinking Isky Mil-a-Mor cam. What did you end up using or what would you recommend?
