Cam?
Well my mom asked me what i wanted for my birthday. Since i'll be turn'n 17 in Feb.
I was thinking a cam and a set of lifters.
But..
I am planning on putting on a 4bbl and hedders this summer
I am also going to put a 3" strait exhaust on it.
Is the cam worth it before the intake and hedders?

The cam won't reach its full potential until that's done; and even then it won't fulfil its potential because the head will still be choking the engine. It should be an improvement, it just won't do all it can do.

It's an improvement but only with the other items listed. HOWEVER, that being said, the 4.9L head is the restrictive point that needs attention. Try breathing thru a soda straw fast and then thru a 1" pipe. You'll get the analogy. A good cleanup of the ports by a machinist who is familiar with Ford inlines will make the engine really wake up with the cam, 4 bbl, and headers.
