I find that hard to believe, you're basically driving a 4X8 sheet of plywood down the road, SD's aren't exactly aerodynamic.
I can see the theory behind how a bug deflector coud affect your mileage, but I just can't believe it can significantly affect your mileage on a PSD SD.
I found this from a master tech as my local ford dealer, he as advised me to remove it for my next road trip and I will post the results, also he tweaked my PCM (from factory) it had no tire size selected causing my engine to be off calibrated so my mpg was really low ( or so I think ) I will also post results of this too.

Any one had any expierence with the bug shield thing?

I didn't notice any difference with/without it. I'll keep mine on -- I'm sure my towing mirrors have much more of a drag effect than my bug deflector. Besides, it keeps the front clean & free of damaging effects of big bugs & road debris hitting it, and makes the air move better on the windshield, helping wiper performance. But the biggest benefit: it looks cool.
I dont know if I like it or not, I do agree, with it the window stays cleaner, but a 250 sits so high I dont receive much road grime without it, and if a truck or even a car sends a rock, stick, road sign, etc. flying, at my truck the bug guard don't do a thing :-)
My Ranchos ride great. Much improved over stock especially offroad. They have a good ride on the highway as well. I considered the RS9000s but I knew I would never adjust them so it would have been a waste of money.
PS: How's Louisville treating you? Thats my home town.

A huge piece of plastic bolted to my hood isn't my idea of cool.
If you don't like it, don't get one. I like how my truck looks with it -- check out my gallery, and you might agree. I even trimmed it out in chrome (along with the vent visors). I think it looks great. That's my story, and I'm sticking to it.

Standards have already been pointed out, and the flag situation has been corrected. In the brief period of time that I had it on my truck, I had several compliments from "civilians" as well as vets. Even had one vet at a gas station staring at it while I pumped over 30 galons of gas in my tank, who gave me a thumbs-up and said, "I wish I had my camera -- you don't see enough patriotism these days." Regardless of the fact that my intentions were good, in observance of flag etiquette it has been removed from the tailgate. I like the picture, however, and am keeping it. The vet who I emailed the picture to would agree.
P.S. You might want to read what has been said about the K&N filter in dusty environments. Thought I would put some constructive advise here rather than proceed with a barrage of malevolent "crappy" criticism. Nice looking truck you have, though.
Sorry I brought the flag thing up. Thanks for the comment and the KN heads up.
About the barrage of malevolent "crappy" criticism, I am entitled to my opinion. I thought that was the point of a forum. I guess I am dumber than I though. I can see your self conscious about you deflector.

No one called you dumb, nor tried to stifle your opinion. Although I wasn't thrilled with the use of "crappy," I was not offended. Like I said -- if you don't like 'em, don't get 'em. Now I stick my hand out for a shake; I'd offer you a beer, but it would get stale by the time UPS got it to ya'.
