I have a dilemma!

I am looking at moving to another province, about 1700 kms one way, (just over 1000 miles, or 16 hr drive). Looking at renting a uhaul 26 ft truck, or just buying a 20 ft cargo trailer.

Trailer would be about $6500 to buy, and would need two trips to move. I would look at selling trailer after move as I would not need one or have any use for it after. The uhaul would cost about $2000 to rent, but then my wife would need to drive the vehicle which I don't feel comfortable doing at that distance. Gas would work out roughly the same, two trips or one trip 2 vehicles. The cost of the move either way would be a write off come tax season.

What would you do and why?

The trailer has tandem 5200 axles so weight wont be an issue, plus I have the Excursion to haul it with so again non issue.

Is it not cheaper to pay a commercial moving company to haul everything with one of their semi trucks?

Moving to the Yukon.

I just might have to get a quote on that idea. It is just I always here horror stories of stuff missing, broken, etc with commercial movers.

why would you be worried about the wife drivin the car a long distance? id do the Uhaul just so you can have your own truck and a vehicle to follow so you DONT have to make a second trip.

There is no way she could drive any long distance without a decent amount of rest. Just the way she is. Me I could crash in the car seat for a few hours and continue the drive, or go the distance if need be.

That would mean a hotel stay mid way, a 2 room rental that would run near $400. I have a few kids, hence the need for 2 rooms.

I could do 2 trips in one week, load and unload into storage.

I like the professional mover suggestion!! Anything lost or damaged should be covered by their insurance.

Although I would love to buy the trailer , But hate making two trips!!

Good luck with your decision and your relocation!
