Sometimes when I check my front axle , the axle won't turn by my hand . It does on the passenger side but not the drivers side . An alignment place said I have to replace my hub . I'm having them replace ball joints all around so I took it into have an inpection done by them before I order parts for it . I know that it won't and doesn't turn when hubs are locked . Sometimes , both sides turn by hand but sometimes only one side turns by hand .
I have greased through the ABS hole a few times .
Do you think I can just pull the hub and clean and grease it at the rear bearings or should I replace the hub ?
I have the WARN hubs and Im lazy lol I like them because they work with ease every time. I was having problem with mine so I just replaced them, its up to you
Greasing the inner bearings thru the ABS hole is a good idea, but it will not affect your manual hubs. If the manual hubs are hard to turn, there isn't a great fix for this (other than to exercise them on occasion). Your hub may be failing to unlock if you cannot turn the axle by hand (when you otherwise should be able to). Most folks buy aftermarket hubs (MileMarker or Warn), but you can install a used or new Ford autohub, too.
Follow Guzzle's post. You should be able to take apart clean and grease so they turn by hand unless it is damaged. Had that problem on my Chev and it cleaned right up. I'd try this first and if it dosen't work replace.Just don't pay Ford Three hundred plus for one hub. Chet
I have taken apart the automatic hubs according to Guzzle's write-up and re-assembled them once . I find that the hubs are not hard to turn to lock them , but sometimes , after they have been unlocked and spinning free , I check them again and find one axle does not spin freelly . But then the next day it does , so I was wondering if anybody else had this happening or what I should do about it .
I don't much like the automatic hubs and will look into getting a set of Warn's .
My biggest annoyance with the autohubs (on 2 diff trucks) was that they would fail to unlock, as often as they would fail to lock. So, I'd take a 300 mile freeway drive with one hub locked! It think you'd be happiest with those hubs sitting on a box on your shelf and some nice manual hubs in their place.

That's exactly my experience... and the reason why I have Warn's now.
