I have a 99 eb expo. Today the of light is flashing and the tranny seems to be shifting a little hard. Yesterday I got caught in a major storm and there was alot of flooded roads. I am wondering if I should pull all wire harnesses goingbtontrans and make sure they're fine? I have a obd2 scanner, would this get the trouble codes if the ck Eng light is not on
no. if i remember right you need a tranny code machine. there is a few different things it could be. look in these, but search od light blinking, theres a lot more.
I "think" the flashing OD light is the check "engine" light for the tranny. On my diesel, it was a TCM (trans control module) that went bad. I don't know if the Gas units are separate units or in the PCM.
I also had this problem with my 99 Expedition. Your transmission has reverted into what is known as "safe" mode which is why your transmission is shifting roughly. Get it to a transmission shop and have it inspected. If you continue to drive while in safe mode you may seriously damage the transmission. This is its way of warning you there is a problem and it has entered safe mode to minimize further damade.
I brought mine to the Ford dealer and the diagnosis was a bad valve in the trannsmission, a $300 or so fix. Pales in comparison to a trashed $3000 transmission which is what you will likely have if you ignore these warnings the transmission is giving you.
