I'm with you on the bio breaks (for the Wife actually), but I've had several back surgeries so driving for over 4 hours at a time are pretty much out of the question.

However, I can cross GA in a few hours time, and right now GA diesel prices are higher than Alabama, so if I could stop for a break and still amke it to my next stop for cheap fuel it might be worth it. When I say worth it, I'm talking about a universal tank sitting in the bed, bought off of Craig's List or EBAY.

You can also check kshmarine.com for fuel tanks. They have in bed tanks from 30 gal. and up. That way when you trade up you can take the tank with you.

I just find that someone has to pee or something every 4 hours or so anyway. I have truck stops plugged in my GPS so I just check them out and make that my stop.

I have been doing this for a long time traveling very long distances and I still manage an average speed of around 58 mph.

I do the exact same thing but I always find it a pain to fill up every time we stop no matter how much is in the tank fearing of not finding Diesel when I get down real low.

Thanks for all your thoughts! As you can see, both sides of the coin make a good argument.

The Edge? Yes, just for fun and as Tom said, spotting early signs of trouble, which I highly doubt would ever happen. I am an iPhone user (ex blackberry and droid user, iPhone makes me happy) so the torque app may be an option some day.

The fuel tank? Tough one. In bed tank? Would be nice if I can keep my toolbox (in bed UWS). I will scour the web for these options. As for saving money? Diesel is 3.69 at home in SC right now, saw 3.70 in GA and TN. here in IN today it is 3.74

I filled up at home, got 287 miles from the tank, filled up in S Pittsburg, TN at 3.70, got another 280 miles out of that tank and I am at my destination. So far, no money to be saved. Maybe a dollar.

Food, bathroom, and walk around stops are important. I view driving sort of like gambling, the more you do it, the higher the odds of winning are. So, a "win" is a ticket, accident, wrong turn, sleeping with your eyes open, blown trailer tire.

I appreciate the info and suggestions. Thanks again.

I have the Insight CTS, just got the upgrade two weeks ago to support the new 6.7s. I used it on my 6.4 before. Like the previous people mentioned, it is really a non-event. It is nice having the info, but not worth the 400. The bigger fuel tank, however, I am interested in. I just pulled a 5er from Bristol and had to stop every 200 miles. It was anoying and it would be nicer to have more range.

I would like the Titan tank too since I hate the time spent at the pump. Part of my problem is that here in Oregon you have to wait for attendants to come pump your gas for you. Technically it is legal to pump your own diesel but very few stations allow you to. Combine one person trying to wait on several vehicles with having to wait for them to help the people that just pull in / walk up to buy cigarettes and you want to rip your hair out! Its worth the 1500 for my sanity.

S. Pittsburg eh? Been there many times. How much do you tow over Mont Eagle? I was AMAZED at how fast the truck would accelerate going up, South to North, pulling my big 5th wheel.

Aside from the towing advantages of a larger tank one of the features I like most, both with the current Titan and the previous tank in my GMC, is that I can fill up every other Thursday, the day after I get paid.
And it coincides with the day the local station adjust their price (every Thursday night)
