The heater core in my '66 started leaking. I would like to get a NOS one. If I can't get NOS I would like to get a made in USA one. I got a repop for my GMC awhile ago and it was CHEAP.
I thought I read somewhere that the heater core from a '67 - '79 W/out A/C or High Output Heater. Is this correct?
Applications: 1965/66 F100/250 with Fresh Air Heater / 1967/79 F100/750 except 1973/79's with High Output (H/O) Heater / 1978/79 Bronco without H/O heater.
Not used in 1968/72 F100/350's with factory installed Integral A/C. Not used in 1973/79 F100/350's (1978/79 Bronco's) with factory installed Integral A/C or with dealer installed Deluxe A/C.
These three A/C systems are combined with the heater.
1968/72 F100/350's with dealer installed A/C, 1973/79 F100/350's (1978/79 Bronco's) with dealer installed Economy A/C use this same E3TZ heater core, because the A/C is not combined with the heater.
Ford confusion: Despite the fact that this heater core has a 1983 (E3TZ) part number prefix, it wasn't used in anything after 1979.
ONE original C5TZ-18476-B is available NOS / There are 99E3TZ-18476-E's available NOS / No Ford Dealer or obsolete parts vendor has any C7TZ-18476-A's.
Bill, what do you think about installing a later model 68' -, in my 65'? I'm talking about the one with the factory Integral A/C unit in it. Is this the one that follows the bottom of the dash lines and hangs under the dash? Does the bottom of the 68' dash follow the same lines as the 65'? Just wonder it it will fit and still look good. ALSO,,, since they are only using the new type refrigerant these days, can these old units be switch over without spending a fortune?
Any one changed theirs out for the underdash 68 -? I know there is always companies like Vintage Air and such but they what a heck of a lot of $$$.
Thanks, Fritz

I doubt you will be able to retrofit a 1968/72 factory installed Integral A/C unit in your 1965. It'll be a complicated nightmare.
Both factory installed Integral A/C and dealer installed A/C bolt to the bottom of the dash on 1968/72 F100/350's.
1) Factory A/C: The A/C is combined with the heater, so the A/C controls are in the same dash mounted panel as the heater controls.
The expansion valve fits where the glove liner would be, so there is a separate glove box in the A/C's bezel.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
2) Dealer installed A/C: Not combined with the heater, the A/C controls (two switches) are in the bezel, the original glove box is extant in the dash.
The 1968/72 dealer installed A/C bezel will not fit properly, will look out of place. The bottom of the dash has a different contour on 1968/72's vs 1961/66's.
There is a pronounced "step-up" that begins below the ashtray, continues across the right side of the dash.
The place I was going to order from lists this heater core for a 1980 to '86 Ford. When I type the part # into google, the same thing is showed.
Uh huh, I find it hard to believe that one/all of the sources I listed would claim this heater core fits 1980/86's, because it does not.
And, I don't give a rats behind what google claims...because their info is wrong. My info comes straight from Ford Truck Parts and O-S-I (Obsolete-Supercede-Interchange) Catalogs.
E3TZ-18476-E .. Heater Core is not listed in the 1980/89 Ford Light Truck Parts Catalog...for anything!
It's the FoMoCo service part replacing part number for C5TZ-18476-B & C7TZ-18476-A.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The following are the two heater cores for 1980/86's (without A/C):
E3TZ-18476-H .. Heater Core: 1980/86 F100/350 & Bronco: Use with Standard Heater
E3TZ-18476-F .. Heater Core: 1980/86 F100/350 & Bronco: Use with High Output Heater.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
And, here's the only other heater core listed for 1980/86's:
E3TZ-18476-G .. Heater Core: 1980/86 F100/350 & Bronco: Use with Factory installed Integral A/C.
I just finished putting my heater core in. It fits like a glove.

I have R134 in my '71 W/ factory A/C and it blows cold. I just drained the pump, flushed the system, added the right oil, and charged it. I just checked it today and it blows 36 degree air.
Redneck, thanks for the response. I forgot and should have posted what I found out. Sorry. The auto air condition guy I know here also told me the R134 works but to work correctly and to last for years without needing to replace the fluid, I should switch out the lines that are designed for R134. Guess the ID of the hoses are smaller also. He said the old style rubber will slowing allow the fluid to bleed out in some cases. I guessing he is telling me the truth since he offered to make the lines up for me free. I just need to pay for the material. Are not friends great. The new stuff is designed for the new R134. He also said the reason to think about using the new pump at the motor is because its much more efficient than the old ones. Which means HP. Todays tech stuff I guess. I just need to find someone that has one of the 'Under dash' unit that was installed in the 65' and 66'. Know anyone that has one???

Considering what FoMoCo used on these trucks, it shouldn't be all that hard to find.
The 'hang-on' unit under the dash is the same: 1963/65 Falcon/Fairlane / 1965/66 Mustang / 1965/67 F100/350.
Chrome steel bezel assy (the blower motor, evaporator and expansion valve mount to it) with 4 round plastic chrome registers (O).
The 2 A/C switches (o) are mounted between the registers (O o O O o O). A Ford crest (emblem) will be found in the center-upper.
You can use the condenser, dryer tank, compressor and clutch from one a these V8 cars, but you will need a 'mount and drive' kit from an FE engine:
Thanks Bill, got your email. I have two other motors in the garage, 390/428 and both have the complete aircon set ups, pump, pullies, etc. Heck the 428 only has 38,??? on it with the original fan belts. Rubber all cracked but original.
Thanks again Bill.
