Really Ford, 2" more was too much to ask?
100% agreed, what a joke! Had to use 12" needle nose pliars in one hand and a panduit crimp tool in th other. No way you could even do it with a regular crimp tool. I wanted to solder...no chance.
Lame!

I have another question. Does anyone know if one of the blunt cut wires by the steering column is a 12V ignition switched power source? (one of the ones near the pass through wires). I would like to power my Black Maxx from here rather than by a pin in the fuse box under the hood the way it is now.

Thanks

Yes, one of them is ignition controlled. I have the sheet printed out at home with the color. If I find it shortly, I'll update this thread.

Glad to help.

I used this to power my hidden radar detector. Since it is only a 5amp source, it cant do too much....gee thanks Ford, could have at least done 10amp.

Love the picture of the pass through wires bottom of page 11! I wish there was that much wire there! I still have to go retrieve my pliars from across the street after the frustration making those connections! I would have just run new wires if I would have known, but once you start...no turning back.....

Thanks agin!

aux wires for 2012 ford pickups

I'm not quite sure of what year of truck you have, but in the 2011-today, the AUX wires are located inside the truck, left side of the steering wheel, behind the parking brake. they have a white sticker around them that says AUX wire. They are a pain in the butt to see and even harder to hook up, the best way to get your wires to them is through the rubber grommets underneath the driver side carpet.

i do have question, the picture of the bundle of wires underneath the dash,(exluding the Aux wires) what are those for?

The bundle of wires that are right next to the firewall grommet contain some wires used for stationary elevated idle control/PTO operation. The upfitter lines are farther away, near the knee panel.

I'm not sure if anyone actually posted a picture of the pass through wires on the engine compartment side, but borrowing this image from my inverter install post, this is where I found my 4 pass through wires:
Brown/White, White, White/Orange, Grey/Orange

As I mentioned in my write-up, I pulled the cardboard wheel well liner out to access this. There's no space to access it from above.

I would not recommend using them for anything more than signalling like relay controls or LED lights or other low current items. They look to me like 18 or so AWG or maybe even less.

That's a lazy way for me to describe the front wheel well liner. There's probably a nicer name for it.

You take out the bolts that you see holding it in and it pulls out. One of the Molex connectors also is clipped onto it and you just have to push it out. It's not all that difficult compared to trying to get at the wires from the top side of the hood. I can't even pull the COVER off the fuse box out without contorting the plastic. I solder all my connections so I had to have some real access to things under there.
