Ok about to buy a '78 460. Want to swap it in my '77 f150 what all will I need is there a site or thread somewhere about everything involved and what not?
If not can y'all give me some parts I will need and what not.
The truck now has a 351M and a 4speed
2wd or 4wd ? You will need a different flywheel. Look behind your front balancer and see if there is a weight on the spacer. If there is you need a flywheel with a counter weight.
I replaced a 351m in a 78 F150 with a 460 from a van and all I needed was the frame stands for the 460. This was 2wd to 2wd. I even used the 351 radiator with no problems. They were both automatics
The cranks flange bolt pattern is different, so the flex plate or flywheel will not work. I had to buy a Super Cooler radiator for my big block. That little 351M-400 rad wouldn't cool it. If the truck is a 3/4 ton 4x4 you will have to either fab a set of alt brackets or buy the L&L's. The stock ones will hit the crossmember. The power steering bracket will have to be reworked to move it up and in some as well, unless you run the big ac bracket set up that puts it up top on the motor. There are a few different mfgrs for motor mounts. The next time I'm going to use Trans-Dapt. I don't like the L&L's. They are IMO pieces of crap that don't fit well and don't hold up either.
