so i have been contemplating the exhaust for my bronco. I have the EFI manifolds and have made a custom Y-pipe that goes to a 3" "collector" (I don't like the design of the walker pipe)
i have been thinking about keeping the exhaust in the 3" size for 3 feet or so, feeding it into a good sized muffler, and then necking it down to 2 1/2" to go the rest of the truck with a side exit behind the tire.
I am aiming for something that is about 50% quieter than most of you guys have posted video's of, just enough to tell its a six, but otherwise quiet. without the restriction of what a stock exhaust would have.
what do you think? or am I just over thinking it? (way too much time this past year to think about this stuff)
You should be able to get a muffler from Walker that is the same round configuration as the stock unit, but in a larger inlet/outlet. Napa would be your best bet to get it ordered.
IMO if you are going to run 3" all the way to the muffler, stick with it all the way out. The restriction you get from necking the tailpipe down won't do much to the noise.
I used the walker Y into 2.5" SS all the way back with a big magnaflow straigt through muffler. Nice tone on the Hwy - for a 6. Pretty quiet at idol. I've kicked around the idea of a louder system. Below is a YouTube like when it had a dump.
I'll have to check. It's about 24 inches long. About 8-10 inches wide. Maybe 5 inches tall. 2.5 in / 2.5 out. All S/S. Practically a straight through design. It has a sligh S curve through it (center/offset) so that you can just about see through it. S/S packing.
I took it off this afternoon a put a straight pipe in (no muffler) to see how it would sound exiting in th rear. Too loud for me. so I put the Magnaflow back with the dump.
