I have a 1999 ford f 250 super duty. My ac compressor went out so I replaced it. Im not sure how but the nut holding my negative on my starter was off (lifted truck, probably shook loose) and my negative made contact with the hot. it wasnt for too long, I had to come out from under the front of the truck and pulled them apart but now when I turn the key nothing happens, no guages come up, nothimg. I can hear a humming or clicking noise coming from behind my inside fuse box. Im not sure whT to do or where to start! This is my only vehicle and I need to fix it asap, any help would be great
When I turn the key the starter clicks 1 time and then the whole truck goesdead. Ivechecked all the fuses and they all look good. When I take the key out the ignition after trying it there is a weird noise coming from behind the fuse panel under the dash. Sounds almost like a coffee maker brewing is my best way to describe it. If I undo the nattery terminals the noise goes away and its back to square 1
Also when I put the battery terminals back om and turn the key so the accesories come on everything works, windows, radio, door locks, etc. the guages dont do anything but im not sure if they do anything till the truck starts anyway
If you're talking about some random hot wire in the engine compartment then fine, maybe some fuse is blown. But I believe you are saying that the hot and the negative on your battery were shorted for a period.
If that's the case, your fuses are fine. Its your battery that's fried. You need a load test, and a lot of auto parts stores will run one for you for nothing.
Just took the battery out and put another in, started right up. Thanks so much for the help everyone. Ive never had that happen to a battery beforbut that is exactly what it was. Only problem I have now is with my ac compressor. Just put anew one on it and filled it with freon while the ac was on. The compressor is spinning for a couple seconds then turning back off and keeps doing this. Its a new compressor so it cant bethat, anyone got any advice?
I believe if you put in a new compressor you have to create a vacuum in the lines before charging the system with "freon". Otherwise you're not compressing the heat transfer gas, you're just compressing air, which won't work worth a .......
