1996 E150 tranny question

What would cause an otherwise proper shifting auto transmission to start shifting hard? I have to run out 1st and accelerate until it finally clunks into 2nd. My first thought was a lack of fluid but that usually causes slipping. Fluid level appears to be full.
Thanks!

In a '96... very unlikely, it's either the E4OD or 4R70w.. both of which are COMPLETELY computer controlled.. so that's where you start by pulling the codes.

If it is a C6 it will have 17 pan bolts and your problem would be either the vacuum modulator at the trans is bad or the vacuum pipe to it is disconnected/bad.

C6 it is.
I found the cause of the problem. Cracked and deteriorated vacuum lines. I replaced them and all is good.
