parking cables

I have a 64 F100. This has a 8 ft bed. I order new parking brake cables from LMC. I installed these on both back brakes. When I went to connect the two cables to the lever in the middle of the truck I am short appx 2 ft. When I called LMC they told me these are the correct cables. This year truck I believe also came as a 6 1/2 ft bed. Am I doing something wrong or missing something.

Thanks

i have no clue, but i need to do new parking cables on my 65 f1 as well, and i had no clue exactly what i needed. i'm assuming that all i need to do is get two cables for the back and two for the front, and it should work when i pull the parking break lever?

i hope someone answers us....

the long bed trucks have an extra section of cable with 2 C clip thingys to extend the cables up to where the front pull cable is located.... i sold this setup off my parts truck years ago to another member.

Sooooo your missing parts..
here is a pic of the clips and they are attached to aprox 2 ft cables which are attached to the equalizer bar thingy

Bill, what year was the truck that had the cable extensions you sold?

These parts are listed for 1965/66's only (2-C5TZ-2A793-A extensions & 2-C6TZ-2A790-A connectors). Not listed for 1961/64's.

I know why the OP is having this problem. It has to do with Ford replacing the original 1961/64 rear cables...and when Ford did this, the front cable also had to be changed.

Dunno what LMC is selling. Are they the original cables?

2) C3TZ-2A635-D .. R/L Rear Parking Brake Cable-67 7/16" long.

1) C1TT-2853-AA .. Front Parking Brake Cable-80 3/4" long.
---------------------------------------------------------
Or, are they the "Service Part Replacement" cables?

2) C1PZ-2A753-A .. R/L Rear Parking Brake Cable-60" long.

1) C1PZ-2853-A .. Front Parking Brake Cable.

I'd list the length for the replacement front cable but the parts catalog doesn't say.

1965/66 cable extensions will not work on a 1964, because '64's do not have them. The OP needs to read post #4, then measure the length of the cables he bought from LMC, then post it here.

ok here is where I am at. The cables I took off were 70in. The replacement according to LMC that I put on are 61 in. LMC list these and verified these are the correct ones. They do not list anything different between a long bed or short bed when I called. This is for a 64 long bed f100 2 wheel drive.
Thoughts?

From the 1964/72 Ford Truck Parts Catalog:

The original rear cables were 67 7/16" long. The Ford replacement cables are 60" long.

The original front cable was 80 3/4" long. The length of the Ford replacement cable isn't listed.

There are no cable extensions, were only used on 1965/66's.

Based on the length and the fact that cables tend to stretch over time, it appears you removed the original rear cables and bought the replacement cables.

So, you will also need the replacement front cable (Ford: C1PZ-2853-A), I do not know its length.

Contact LMC, ask them how long the front cable they are selling...is.

Smile brake cables

I have a 68 f100 long bed. There are e-brake cable extentions. those are 16" long, there two cables that connect to a "T" piece that has a 5-7" long threaded rod to connect to front brake cable. Just like the picture up there. Go to this website, the fordification one. You will see diagrams of brakes, the top diagram I believe is the one. It will show you everything you need. http://www.fordification.com/tech/im...ingbrake01.jpg Also if you go to John's F-fun at www.F100.com he has the parts in his catalog but out of stock at this time. This will give you a better picture on all this..

Since this is the 1961/66 forum, and the OP has a 1964 F100, I made no mention of cable extensions used on 1967/72's.

1964's do not use cable extensions! There is no Ford part number listed or illustrated for them until 1965.

And...Ford replaced the original 1964 cables with different cables, this is why the OP is having a problem. See posts #4 & #8.

(sigh) You posted a link for the wrong parts catalog illustration (section 26 page 10), it only pertains to 1967/72's.

Go to Fordification and look at this: 1964/72 Ford Truck Parts Catalog / Illustration Section 26, Page 9 = Parking Brake System-Cable Operated Rear Brakes-Typical 1964/66 F100/250 2WD/4WD.

The cable extensions (basic part number 2A793) are shown. NOTE what is says: 1965/ F100 128.8" wheelbase.
