Can someone confirm that the longer cable goes on the left? Im adjusting them and the equalizer bar will sit ****-eyed by 3 or 4 inches, dont know if the PO ever had them out and switched them.
thanks

no, the pedal assy was broke by the PO, welded and broke again, so I never used it. Got a J/Y assy and put it in then pulled the rear cables out (one at a time so I didnt mix them up) and they were still moving pretty good. I didnt pull the front cable. Coated what I could on all three with some anti-sieze and worked em back and forth a few times before putting them back in. Havent adjusted or tested them yet, wanted to make sure everything is as it should be first.
The rear cables are REEAALLLY close in length. As long as they reach the backing plate with some slack, it doesn't matter. Mounting orientation on both cables is the same. That is, the end of the cable is captured in the mounting bracket and has about the same amount of exposed cable going to the front cable. Over all length of the cable sheath doesn't affect how it works or is adjusted. What I'm saying is, if both cables are mounted properly and neither one is stretched tight, you're good.

1978 F150 standard cab
What do you mean by this, that it's a REGULAR Cab and not a Super Cab? The term "Standard Cab" once referred to a trim level, it was not used after 1969 for F100/350's.
Please, when asking questions, list ALLthe pertinent info! I had to go to your "About Me" profile to find out it's an F150.
But, is it 2WD or 4WD?
-------------------------- Rich: The cables you listed in post 2 (that you took from one of my posts) are wrong...as they are for an F250 4WD (Edit-see post 10).
The OP has an F150, but until he responds, we won't know if it has 2WD or 4WD
Since you do not have the truck parts catalog, either myself or mikeo0o0o0 will have to look these cables up. It would be nice if the OP lists what the hell he's working on!

Looking up this jazz is a PITA, looking up this jazz when you take the info out of context, is a royal PITA!
When you take info from one or more of my posts, please copy who I quoted the post for and the APPLICATION. Otherwise, it becomes a confusing mish-mash.
When Mike asked me in an email awhile back if I wouldn't mind you taking info from my posts, I told him I wouldn't mind as long as [you] delete the sources, as they are old, old, old!

The thing is: In post #1 .. the OP only said it was a standard cab, which is wild mule p!ss, as there were no F100/350 standard cabs after 1969.
Then he added in post #3 that it's a short bed, so it cannot be an F250.
Now he says (indirectly) in post #9 that it has 4WD (sigh)

At 54 you aren't old, but when you reach 70 (like I have, DOB 9/9/1944), then you can say you're old.
so anyway....assuming that the cables are on the correct side, why is the equalizer not straight? Ive seen some pictures here where they are and some where they are not.
