'56 F100 I bought a replacement FRONT parking brake cable. The old cable casing ran almost the full length of the cable. The new on has a very short casing leaving a lot of bare cable exposed. My truck is made of many trucks, not unlike Dolly Parton's coat of many colors, so I don't know if it was correct to start with. The photo of my replacement part showed a much longer casing. Can someone describe what the original FRONT cable looked like? Thanks
As far as the amount of exposed cable, mine looks just like this aftermarket. The second picture is the original. It still has the yoke on it, but you get the idea. Mine is a '53, but according to the suppliers they are the same.
Unless you have a long bed, I don't see how there can be more exposed cable. The mounting point for the cable housing is close to the cable connections on both ends.

Reason: Added picture of original.
Thanks EffieTrucker. The photo of the original looks like my original and the photo of the aftermarket looks just like what I saw when I ordered. When the new part arrived it matched the part # of the photo but looks nothing like it. Armed with your information I will try to get some answers from the company. Thanks again!

TWO different front parking brake cables for 1956 F100.
TAAA-2853-A .. Front Parking Brake Cable - 83 3/4" long / Reproduced
1953/55 F100; 1956 F100 with 110" wheelbase.
I assume these are NOS:
NOS PARTS SOURCE in Olathe KS has 1 = 913-220-5746.
OBSOLETE RELIABLE PARTS in Nashville GA has 1 = 229-686-5101.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------- B6C-2853-A .. Front Parking Brake Cable - 91 3/4" long / Obsolete - Reproduced?
1956 F100 with 118" wheelbase.
GREEN SALES CO. in Cincinnati OH has 2 = 800-543-4959.
CARPENTER NOS OBSOLETE PARTS in Concord NC has 6 = 800-476-9653.
Many OE vehicles have long, exposed lengths of e-brake cable. It really isn't a problem but you may want to consider SS cable if it is going to be a daily driver. Otherwise in your dry climate it should not be a problem.
Thanks to all for the information. I returned the part and ordered from a second vendor. Spoke with them on the phone and hopefully we are on the same page.
Got my replacement FRONT emergency brake cable. Looks good. I was surprised that it only had a bout 1 3/4" of exposed cable which means it will only have that much THROW or TRAVEL. Is that normal or unusual. Maybe the rear brake cable doesn't need to move very far to engage the brake shoes?
Resurrecting this post a little, has anyone experienced a replacement cable not completely reaching the rear section? I bought a reproduction TAAA-2853-A cable from Mid-Fifty and it slightly doesn't reach the rear cable now. See attached pics.
