so i have read many post on here abvout this so i want to ask a couple more things if i can.
i have the sc11 and the other day i was on the hwy at 75 mph outside temp was 95 the ect temp never got over 195 and eot got to 208 and by what i read here it seems fine right?
so does anyone know what these temps should be if the truck was new?
it seems we need to know that so as to compare right?
i hope this makes sense to you guys
thanks for your imput
Robert
no i dont have a coolant filter.the truck is totally stock.i plan on in the near future to change the coolant and fuel filters,it has a oil change from the dealer where i bought it.
btw it a 2005 lariet with 122000 miles
i pulled the plug on my egr so that solves that problem right?
no it doesnt let exhaust gas back in the intake but the EGR cooler still gets heat soak
the problem is the oil cooler plugs on the coolant side then the coolant goes on to the egr cooler but since coolant flow is reduced in the plugged oil cooler the EGR cooler overheats and the welds inside the egr cooler let go
the egr cooler only gets what a plugged oil cooler will let it have they are plumbed in a series
if I were you Id plug that egr valve back in being unplugged affects fan operation and you run the risk of warping the heads if it gets hot and the fan dont come on
hope that made sense Im not the best at explaining stuff sometimes
heres a good thread that worth a read its explained good about the issuses with the 6.0 that you need to watch for hope this link works
Thanks Blade ill read up on that.i thought i understood it was better to unplug it.
that was probably an old post you read
I know Cheezit did some testing [IIRC an 05] and with the egr valve unplugged the fan did Not work properly
and somebody eles did some testing on an 03 with the egr valve unplugged and also found the fan did Not work properly
If you do have it unplugged keep a CLOSE eye on ECT
that fan can be running and you dont know it its hard to hear unless it kicks on high and several things can activate the fan like A/C ambeint temp & vehicle speed and ECT and theres probably more
Iv watched the fan rpm with SGII for the summer and noticed these things
so i plugged the egr back in.
so yesterday i towed my camper about 40 miles to camp.it was 95 outside and i have a 9500# camper.EOT got up to 228 a few times and ECT got to 215 TFT got to 189 i believe
sound ok?
Your # are much like mine (I don't have my notes with me). 11-12 spread unloaded, maybe 203/214 and towing high as 220/235 on hills. Not too good but gonna baby it till fall. Temps go down if I slow down. I've seen several trucks making #'s Like these lately. Nothing to panic about but definitely bears watching.
With a ECT to EOT temperature spread of 10 degrees or more, I'd consider doing a clean, flush and coolant replacement.
I have an '06, after the clean, flush and coolant replacement, the ECT/EOT spread runs 4 degrees unloaded. 6 degrees when driving up long steep hills. Since the flush I have only towed 6K or less trailers. The ECT/EOT spread has never gone over 8 degrees.
Somehow I think that the cooling system requires chemical cleaning and coolant replacement on a regular basis to prevent oil cooler scaleing. Waiting until 100K, in my humble opinion, is too late.

Agreed.
Coolant changeouts at the 50k mile interval are a MUST in my opinion!! Not so sure on chemical cleaning. Sometimes it can free stuff up that can clog a good oil cooler, but I guess eventually it is a good thing!
