Hello all,
I am in the process of changing the waterpump on our 2001 PSD Excursion. I am pretty mechanically inclined, but am having problems removing the fan clutch off of the waterpump. I don't have a Haynes or CD (I nned to get one ASAP) where I can reference this problem, but 'til then I need your guys' help! I'm trying to take off the waterpump, but I need to take off the fan clutch first. How do the heck do I accomplish this PITA task??? lol Do I just leave the clutch on, unbolt the waterpump, then attempt to take off the clutch after I unbolted the waterpump? Is there an order of operations? I've tried to take off the clutch with a pipe wrench (with the serp. belt still on), but the serp. belt doesn't grip the pulley good enough. Thanks for any pointers.
if you dont have the special fan clutch tool, you can get you a long punch, bar and a hammer. Place the bar on one of the 6 point flanges and hit it too break it loose. i would put the belt back on to help accomplish this. dont sweat its not that bad.
Joe, I think you are right . I know from other vechiclws the clutch is left handed. Can't really say as my truck is still in warranty.
Vindicator, isn't yours still under warranty ?A 2001 I would think might still be covered.
Denny, you were right, for some reason my mind was not functioning correctly and I am feelin' like a BIG jackass I fergot that our diesel was covered for 100k- basic warranty- so they wouldn't replace our defective door lock actuators. Right now, the rig is at the dealership gettin' freak'd by the techs and should be done by the end of the day or first thing in the morn. I'm goin to use that writeup, the next time I have to take off the 'pump. I plan on gettin that coolant filter in the near future as well as many other upgrades! THANK YOU EVERYONE! !

No problem vindicator. I just saw your post with the year of the truck and thought What about the warranty. Good luck with the repairs. I have a small oil drip every now and then at the front of my 2002 and I really hate to think of taking it in for fear it might leak someother place or even worse when I get it back.
