Power Steering

I am getting ready to swap out a power steering pump due to leaks. Is there anything special to be aware of? I understand that the power steering shares with the braking system...fluid too? Any particular fluid recommendation? Bleeding procedure?

I used mobile 1 synthetic ATF when I changed my pump. I did the put my wheels on some flashing when you are sawing the wheel back and forth to bleed it trick. Helps to have a bud help you.... Or Bud Light.

Good thing I saw this, did it a year ago and I have some pointers...

Here's my experience:https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/9...a-weekend.html

-You will need to remove the alternator and take off the cover it and the powersteering pump are attached to

-You WILL need a powersteering pulley puller AND an impact wrench to get it off

-Use Mobil 1 synthetic fluid to refill

Thanks for the tip! Just read your writeup - WOW. I can't quite tell where the leak is coming from yet as I'll have a bud work the wheel while I lie under the truck to see. So whats the final verdict on fluid? Type F ATF or Mobil 1?

Use Mobil 1 and if the leak is bad enough, all you'll have to do is start the engine and you'll see where it's coming from. That's all it took for me...
