Help...

Hi All,
I have a buddy here at work that has got an 07 Reg Cab Auto 4x4. On his way home last Thursday coming up to a stop sign the truck began to slightly Rev up (on deceleration) almost like it was in neutral, once he came to a stop the truck would not move, only rev. He shut it off and back on again and it drove fine the rest of the way home with no issues. Monday he was leaving work and before he left the parking spot the truck began to rev to almost 3k on its own. He limped it into the Stealership and they told him it was throwing a Turbo code (trying to find the exact number now).

Any ideas on what would cause this? Maybe a bad Throttle Position Sensor? Any help is greatly appreciated...

Thanks,

Thanks,
Now, if you look at the post count of Mr. cheezit. You will notice how many times this particular gentle man has offered advice and great tips to many on here.

Then look at His signature, and then you will understand.

I can give you places to go look for a lot of information to research, but, folks like cheezit can give you first hand knowledge. I know he has for me.

Constructive Criticism. That's all.

If I knew anything about your friends problem I would help, but I don't.

Good luck!

Disconnect the ICP and try driving it that way for a bit.

Thanks for the info Mark, I will have him disconnect it and give it a run with the ICP unplugged.

Cheezeit and anyone else who may have been offended...
sorry that is my relationship with our local Ford Shop, they are useless technicians and by no means a "Mechanic". They are ready to start swapping electronic components before they even understand the problem. Sorry if you were offended by the comment.

Any other input would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,

Chances are likely you have an IPR issue, but see what the ICP unplugging does (easier and cheaper). A ScangaugeII is very useful in figuring out ICP/IPR issues.

pull ipr and look at the screen. theres not many things that will casue a rpm spike. almost has to be ipr.
icp would give you a serge of a few 100 rpm max.
remember the icp only reads what the ipr is doing so even if it was off a volt the ipr would have to supply that difference to make it surge anyway.

And who exactly are YOU, to pass this type of judgement? Are you capable of repairing the issue yourself? Never mind even that. If this is your attitude, why is the truck even there to begin with?

Okay, am I to understand that you're saying this truck revved up to 3000 RPMs with the foot OFF the accelerator? An ICP/IPR issue would NOT cause an engine speed fluctuation by THAT much. As already previously mentioned, MAX it would fluctuate by, is about 100 RPM if it were an ICP/IPR issue. The only thing that comes to my mind, that would cause an unrequested increase in engine speed on diesel would be if it ingested an alternative fuel source causing it to run away. But this only tends to happen on 6.4L engines that like to "make" oil when there are internal high pressure fuel leaks into the crankcase. I don't think I've ever heard of this happening on a 6.0L engine in the years that I've been wrenching on them.

mike also brings up a good point. 3k rpm is hard to hit even with an ipr issue... but possible imo.
but as he sugested also inspect for alternate fuel sorce as root reaon for concern from there you need to figure out how it got that way. check oil level and charge air cooler for possible places as well
