1991 e150 van 302 timing
where the timing tab bolts to the timing cover (2 bolts 1 on top and 1 on bottom) between the bolts strait out to the balancer there is a hole. if you move up an inch the tab goes in on a 45 degree angle and there is a smaller hole move up 1 more inch and it looks like thats where you would check timing but the way they have it set up does not make any sence. if some one could enlightn me on how use this garbage set up would be great
also i have never seen a dist get frozen in a block. tride to move dist so i could change the thermostat for the 2 time this year
and broke the tfi module off the dis. you cant get anything on the dist shaft to try to break it free so i just took a nice sized hammer and smashed the dist out of the engine then it came out. good thing i had a spare in the garage also why would you put the theromstat housing in that spot. that has to be the worst design besides a ford water pump i have ever seen in my life. who ever designed that set up needs to be slaped hard
and they have used it fo ever. so all together to change a theromstat this time it cost me a dits, a tfi module, a thermostat, and 6 hours of my time and i still have to set timing the first thermostat froze up and had to be replaced so the upper housing bolt came out no prob but the lower one was in so tight that i cracked the lower intake manifold 4 inches back in the hole for the thermostat so that time it cost me a day of my time a lower intake manifod complete intake gasket set injector o rings 4 helicoils in my replacment lower intake because the bolts that mount the fuel rail to the lower intake broke off in it and an egr pipe witch is also a garbage design and here i am doing it again. this will be the last ford product that i ever buy this is also the 2nd aod trans i have put in this van that now has 17 miles on it and is also garbage (shifts like a girl) i should write ford moco and tell them how happy i am with their products i have 2 vans 3 rangers a grand marquis and i have replaced the tfi module thermostat tps and ect on every one of them at least twice all these ford products have less then 750000 miles you should not have this many problems on anything also how many of you enjoy ford oil pans in the e and f trucks i know i like them 1 more junk ford design i cant wait to get rid of these cars and trucks ford needs to change the way they design things its like they are all smoking dope or something lol thanks for reading
The timing pointer is the very top part of the bracket (where you think you should line it up.)
My truck has over 230,000 Km's and still runs great. Maybe you just have some bad eggs, cause my truck hasn't had half of the problems you've listed. And I don't need a hammer to move my distributor.
Just my $0.02
Good luck.
