I have a 2005 F150, 1/2 ton, 2WD, 4.2L EFI 6-cyclinder and the gas mileage on my truck has gone from 19mpg city to 10mpg city. I have replaced plugs and EGR Valve. Truck runs well just uses lots of fuel. No idea where to go from here other than a shop. Some history on truck. No problems with mileage until I had to take the truck to the local Ford dealer due to a recall on a spring in the steering column that could possibly make the air bag activate. Approximately one week later my engine light came on and it tested as needed a new EGR valve. Back to the Ford dealer, EGR replaced and now my gas mileage is crap. Getting scared of Ford dealers. HAHAHA!

Reason: More information given
You need to post more info...Year model, engine size, tranny type, miles showing etc.
Not to say that this will help alot, but will likely get you more responses.
Welcome to the Forum!
Yeah 19MPG seems way out there but you never know. When was the last time the fuel filter was replaced and what other sort of routine maintenance has been done?
John your 89 engine is a inline 6 his is a 5.4 V-8 so the fact that you only average 1 mph better is nothing because he has more power and the same mileage basically. I average about 14-15 but I have a light foot and tend to let me truck coast more it all depends on the traffic you are in and your driving habits mostly.
Wow, My 2006 5.4L 4x4 Ex cab is getting around 16 mpg in highway/city (windy back roads mostly with very light traffic). Who ever had it before me must have done something to her.
For the tank of fuel I bought in July, I got 12.1 mpg just driving short distances around my town with the A/C running full blast. If the typical drive for you is 6 miles out & back, 10 mpg is not that surprising. For most of August 2011 I have been able to drive my truck with the A/C off & have taken a couple of 20 & 30 miles round trips - my mileage jumped to 16.1 mpg, much more typical. I have been carefully filling my tank & keeping track of gas mileage ever since I bought my F150 in 2002.
My most recent mileage was 20.1mpg - 4.2L V6, automatic. Lowest I can remember is 16mpg once, 17-18 normally, with regular AC usage. LA freeways with occasional stop and go traffic.
That much of a change does not sound right, but the change in your commute sounds like a big factor.
Have you changed fuel brands? I get the best results using Shell or Chevron.
Are those hand-calculated mpg's? 19 city seems above average. I get 14mpg around town and can push 18mpg tops on the freeway going 65-70mph. When my wife drives her 2mile commute to work with her notoriously heavy foot on either pedal, she's lucky to check in with 12-13mpg city.
I keep rpms no higher than about 2K while accelerating unless I'm passing some moron. I see her routinely up at 2400-2500rpms--that guzzles fuel like watering my lawn.
