how much is everyones gas where they live? so far where i live the highest its hit is 3.95 (yesterday). now i know summer is coming up and gas prices always go up then. my truck in my sig is only getting 12 mpg and its killing this 17 yr old. i love my truck but if something doesnt give its going to have to go. and yes ive done all the usual: new plugs, wires, cap, egr valve, fuel filter, air filter. i keep telling myself if gas hits 5.50 its gone. its my daily driver and id like to find something with better gas mileage but i dont know what. id really like for it to be 4x4 because i like the whole lifted thing but i understand that anything lifted with bigger tires isnt going to get great gas mileage. the way i also look at things is is if you start with something with good gas mileage then you have some to lose lol.
anyone got some suggestions of vehicles to look at? i really like the 94-96 f150s the best so id like to find another one of those but i dont know how much better gas mileage one of those is going to get than what i have now. the only real exception i would make would be for a newer model lightning
whats everyone on here have and what kind of gas mileage are you getting? also what about powerstroke turbo diesels? i hear they get pretty good mileage?
im thinking about mayeb a short wheel base f150 5 speed with a 5.0 and 4x4? but i really like the extra room of my ext cab. whats everone think?
Petrol in eastern ky (Morehead/Paintsville/Prestonsburg/Salyersville Areas) is $3.85-$3.89 per gallon....And my Mileage is running around 14-16city, and 18-20hwy....
We are getting up to $3.89 in Michigan and I have been driving the car little more than I normally do. I have taken the truck in to for the last two days and I am down to half a tank. I will park it for a couple days before I drive it some more.
My gas mileage is terrible. It is my fault for having a lead foot and doing all city driving. The last time I checked I was getting 9.5 MPG. I could use a tune-up too.
I wouldn't consider getting rid of it for another truck that will still be hard on gas unless you drive a lot. Other than that, drive as little as possible and as easy as possible. You may want to keep an eagle eye on tire pressure while your at it.The gas prices aren't here to stay(let's hope.) Try to ride it out... rearrange other spending habits if need be. My $0.02
I do the bear minimum driving wise now. Summers coming up and id like to drive more. Take some trips that kind of thing. I guess im just going to have to suck it up and shell it out
You can do what I did and find a beater to drive. Just keep the truck for when you need it. I found a 91 escort for $100 guy was going to junk it. All it needed was a battery and a clutch slave cylinder. Now i'm cruising around town with 30 mpg when I don't need the truck.
In you're mentioned tune-up, you didn't mention a fuel filter. If you haven't changed this yet, i definately recommend it. I have a lifted F150 with 31" mudders, 300I6, 210k miles and i'm getting 15mpg with an exhaust leak at my 02 sensor (causing it to run rich). I got about 18mpg's with my P235-75R15 snow tires.
You could also go to autozone and pick up a wanna-be K&N that performs almost as well for about $20. it's by Sceptre and it's worth it
i get about 10 mpgs since i drive way too hard. if i take it easy i can get like 12 mpgs around town. on the hwy my truck will easily push 20 mpgs if im doing under 65. gas is about 4 dollars around here (long island). have you considered getting a motorcycle? mine gets 55 mpgs, the insurance is 100 dollars a year, and its a total chick magnet. i use that if its nice out and i dont need the truck.
Gas here in Washington is about $4.00 a gallon....my 5.0 F250 4x4 is getting about 18 on the highway....I feel your pain....I live 2.5 miles away from the base I am stationed at....its cheaper to have my wife drive me to work and pick me up than feed my truck
You could look for a standard cab, straight drive PSD. You could get 20+ that way, and even with diesel being more $, you'd stil be saving compared to what you've got now
You would be paying more for regular maintenance though, so it may be a wash
To the OP: I'd recommend replacing the O2 sensor if you haven't already. They tend to fail gradually, and as they do, they'll usually drop the AFR quite a bit (and for quite some time) before they trigger a CEL. You'd be surprised just how much an old O2 sensor effects gas mileage.
I average 14-15 MPG with my '95 F-150. It's a 5.0L/4x4/3.31/4R70W on 33's. With those gears and tires, it's under 2K rpm at 80 MPH on the highway.
It's $4.75 a US gallon(converted from liters) up here.

You need a little 4 cyl car as a daily driver, no V8 truck will get better than about 15mpg city while a car little can easily do double that. This is the reality check everybody will eventually be forced to recognize, it takes a lot of fuel to push a heavy vehicle around, even the current state of the art ecoboost only manages low to mid teens city driving.

correction.
you could "peak" that possibly, but not "get" that regularly.
