feels like its missing

my truck has been feeling kinda weak lately. I have noticed that with very little throttle my engine feels like it is missing, it will accelerate, but right where you are just barely pushing on the accelerator pedal, it has a mild barely noticeable sputter, which will go away immediately if push just a bit more on the accelerator pedal, any one have any ideas as to what may cause this ? i am afraid it will get worse.
it cruses fine down the highway at 70MPH. up hills, across flats, with or without cruse control on.
slow speeds is where its happening, up to about 30-45 is where i feel it most, in town driving.
I have 1 psi of boost on the highway at 70 MPH cruising speed across the flats, hit a hill and the boost will go up to 4-5 if you floor it, boost will go right up and black smook will pour out. fuel is expensive so i don't do the pedal to the floor very often.
thanks
bishop

Not sure if the sputtering is related but your boost sounds low

TPS. Throttle Positioning Sensor.
Good I'll go buy one today.

Boost is good. 4-5 up hills with cruz on.
I get 20 PSI very easy with pedal to floor.

I don't think that part will fix your problem.
