I just changed the oil on my V10 for the first time and I found it to be relatively easy. Maybe having a 10 quart catch pan helps. The only thing that surprises me is that it only takes 6 quarts. My 06 5.4 took 7!

The easiest way for a no mess oil filter change is to use a hammer and an old screwdriver sharpened to a point and punch a hole in the bottom of the filter and let it drain. No mess and no hot oil on your hands. Also, always account for the gasket. Don't make the rookie mistake of the dreaded "double gasket"
