How do you guys feel about changing the oil in the top end? Does it really help? I have 105K on the clock and have been wondering about changing it or not
Change it if you'd like to, it sure isn't gonna hurt anything. The oil is moving threw there at a pretty good clip & it's the same oil that is in the pan so I've never messed with it, but some do & that's their choice.

The way that Ive heard it explained it that there was 2 different oil systems more or less in the truck, one top one bottom? If its all running threw the same system it seems pointless

Yep it's kinda like 2 systems but the oil all starts out & ends up in the same place, the oil pan. While I think it's pointless some think it benefits & I'm no expert...
198k when i did an oring job on mine. was leaking oil into fuel. not a hard job at all. truck runs 100% better after change. wouldnt have done it unless i suspected an oring problem.
I have 210k on a e99 with the small stock injectors ( I think 130cc) I don't have any real problems but I hear and can tell I am going to need to replace before 250k if I have the coin. IF not I'll run them until one goes BAD. I don't like to that "I believe in PM on your truck" I try to use 2 stroke oil or some kind of add and in the winter I really like the "XDP Polor" . I change my fuel filter about every 10k and oil 5k -7.5k Ihave the parts to do the Hutch mod and add lift pump& pre filter. That should help fuel pressure. I agree with all on the points: filter, additives, fuel pressure, HPOP pressure
I think we could do a whole tread on affects of fuel / HPOP oil has on injector life. Too much pressure is NOT good and poor pressure is bad too!! It soulds like I'll need a few beers and think about that one?
I had 320,000 on mine. I replaced them all, although only 2 were bad. However I used a fuel conditioner every fill up. Also oil was changed every 4,000 mi.
I helped a friend change injectors with 380k miles on them (160k on 'grease') last summer - he did have a 'bad' injector though.
wow 380 is alot only two posted with 300k + thanks jason

thanks otto only two over three and both had a bad inj. or two seems like to me anything over three is a gift! i thought chris (f-350) had over 380?
She is starting to get a little hard to start when cold so I am going to do injector orings and glow plugs before winter but she still runs great and fuel mileage has had been consistent all 340k miles.
how many miles on your injectors ? and what have you done to them?
I had my injectors rebuilt by Rosewood at 244k miles. I went with new (stock)nozzles and springs (lift pin). Much more engine power compared to the aged set of injectors. My old nozzles were only flowing about 80cc according to Jim. I didn't realize it at the time but my fuel mileage was suffering as well. I think there was about a 15-20% decline in mpg on the old injectors. I have about 32k miles on the rebuilt set and my mileage is right around 16.8 mpg with plenty of towing power. I expect this set to get me to the 400k mark and then I'll probably replace them with a brand new set.
My wife's truck has about 189k miles on it and I can tell that it is down on power slightly, very hard to tell while unloaded but it's more noticeable when towing. Fuel mileage is down as well. I plan on pulling the injectors and sending them to Jim around the 200k mark.
