Anyone running 5 inch straight pipe? Im thinking of going from the 3" downpipe into 5" and exit infront of the rear tire. I already contacted Kenworth and they will do it for me. Just want to hear any thoughts or opinions on it....might pick up some big red and white mud flaps too!!
Sounds like a hell of an idea to me! I'm going from the 2 3/4" banks downpipe into a 4" straight thru exhaust exiting in front of the rear tire and it sounds great. Although I'm trying to fight off the urge to lob off that 4" pipe and put stacks on it!
Would it be best to go all the way back or just infront of rear? Any sound/tone difference? And obviously more expensive to go all the way back. Im thinking no tip on it. Just fat pipe comin from the side, I think that will be pretty neat, anyone can put a big tip on. Just tryin to be unique
the bigger the pipe the deeper the sound will be i have the banks down pipe into 4" to the stack t pipe whish is 5" then the 7"X36" tips and it is deeeeeeep!!!
Joe, I would think the longer the pipe, the less crack you would get cause it has longer to dampen so to speak within the pipe.
Coalroller, if you can take a pic of yours coming off the down pipe I would appreciate it. My banks downpipe didn't come down as far as the factory downpipe so I had to use some flexpipe to connect it to my existing exhaust. I'm wanting to do stacks now and I'd like to see how you tied all of yours in.
was planning on going to kenworth today but then when i get out to my truck a tire is flat!!! filled it up and seeing what happens. so it seems like the bigger the deeper, hmmm if they have 6" i might have to see about that....
The longer the pipe the more refined it will sound. Buddy of mine had a 7.3 had it turn out just behind the cab... sounded like a 4 banger with an open manifold. He ran it out the back straight, really cleaned up the sound. Mine sounds good, 5" to mine ears at least will sound better. Theres a clip on youtube of a 6.9 with 8" stacks, really low tone and has a nice growl, but idk... think 8s are a little big.
Mine has the 3in mbrp dp i choped up and welded to turn down right under the cab away from the floor so no exaust inside the whistle is insane at just 5psi the overall tone is real real loud and real deep if you are just driving normal so loud i cant conversate in the cab just fyi dont do unless wife or girlfriend likes not talking lol id say go 5in fron downpipe back any bigger will look out of place on a pickup just my 2 cents
