My mechanic (don)and i were talkin one day about an old boy with an old bronco 4x4 saying it could pull don's tow truck (1992 f450 flatbed 4x2) well i had to agree there was no way the bronco could pull it. I then said but my F250 would drag that ole IDI piec... ....yadda yadda (dont wanna offend anybody) lol. Needless to say he disagreed he said he could pull me in 4x4 low, he is 12,000 lbs. I didn't think so what do ya'll think?? (pulling in grass)

It's dam sure a great way to take a clevis to the back of the head. But so goes natural selection.
Pulling is all a game of tire traction, which usually always sucks in grass, so you just sit there and spin until you find out the weakest link between the tires on the two trucks, be it a bumper if you're really dumb, a driveshaft, a u-joint, or the chain you're tied together with. How messy the clean up is is a function of what breaks first.

Get yourself a good strong tow STRAP instead of a chain. Use proper rated shackles on each end, and make sure your life insurance policy is in place.
There really isn't a safe way to do this, but you can reduce yur risk.

I wouldn't bet any money on it. Especially given his 12000 lbs vs your 8000 pounds, at best. That's half again as much weight holding him to the ground. Unless you've got exceptional traction tires and he's got slicks.
