i have a 01 f150 4x4 4.6 auto and the owner of a 91 s10 2.5 5 spd wants to hookem up for slips should i or not. (tow chain to bumper, frame pull tight then see who pulls who) :-x19
That aside: traction is all about the Normal force. That's a nerdy term for how much force is pushing the tires into the pavement (assuming you're on pavement). Your truck should have the weight advantage. It also should have a height advantage. How does that help. If it's pullin up on the S10, it's reducing the normal force on the S10 tires and increasing the normal force on your tires (assuming you're both pulling from the rear bumper)...That's good for you!
now with a less predictable surface (non pavement), you should still win. But, a lot more variables become relevant. Tires, 2wd vs. 4wd, lockers, limited slips etc. And even if we understood all that perfectly, the difference between the surface under the tires can still surprise you. Surfaces that appear similar, may not be similar.
In other words: It might appear that you should be hauling this little truck all over the place and then you're out a nice truck!
Gtex is correct, assuming equal surfaces, equal tires, etc, you'd pull him. However, you have alot more to lose if this is done unevenly. He has a 91 S10, and you have an 01 F150. You have alot more to lose, should you. If this is set up evenly, theres no question you'd tear him a new one, but still understand, like gtex said, there are tricks of the trade. Either he's a complete idiot or he has somethin up his sleeve.
Be careful though,Bumpers can come flying off and become part of ones head. I was gonna put my halfton in a pull but backed out just for that reason. Hook'em to the chassis instead.
