Makin' "Regress"...

Hey all...
I have been a member of the forum for a little while now, was in the 80-86 section until today, but have "progressed" to the 61-66 section due to the purchase of a '66 F250. Consequently, my '81 F150 will be up for grabs if anyone would be interested. It has a 300 c.i. straight six with about 85k miles on it, but needs the C6 automatic trans. replaced. I have one with 71k on it to install or include with the truck. The "new" '66 has a bit over 91k miles on it, was redone 20 years ago, and is still quite nice. I am looking for a few parts for it, such as a day-night inside mirror, a standard gauge panel (do not need gauges), a good glove box ****, a '66 F250 fender emblem (have a '65 emblem for trade if that would help- the truck has one of each). It has a 300 six cyl. with a granny-geared four speed, and according to the door tag it has a Dana 60 with 4.56 gears. I will see about posting pix somehow- I don't own a computer.

Later-
Rodney

Hi Rodney! welcome to the 61-66 section!

there was no such option as a day-night inside mirror. if you can find the (newer) one that glues to the windshield it will work for you.

your 300 might be a 240, from the outside you can not tell them apart. (that i know of)

Wanna bet? No...you don't, because...

There were TWO different day/night mirrors offered for 1961/66's, the same ones were used on 1961 Thunderchickens, 1962 Thunderchickens that did not use the chrome glue-on mirror (the 1st FoMoCo vehicle to offer it), 1961/65 Falcons, 1962/65 Fairlanes, 1965/67 Muskrats and etc.

These mirrors were chrome, threaded onto the bracket.

One type had a metal **** marked DAY on one side, NIGHT on t'other, mounted below the mirror, the other had a white plastic flip-flop lever located below the mirror.

Some 1967's offered these same mirrors, some came with the mirror that glued to the glass (t'was black). This same black glue-on mirror was also used in 1967/79 myriad Passenger Cars.

Note inre to glue-on mirrors. The chrome type introduced in 1962 (used thru 1966) had a separate bracket, two separate arms with a ball on its backside another ball on the bracket.

The arms wore where they contacted the *****, the mirror then sagged like an old sway backed nag. Adjusting the damn thing so you could see oughtta it was then impossible, unless you were Billy Barty sized.

1967 and later glue-on mirrors are a one piece assembly.

Obsolete, may be repro'd. Most peeps (including the repop sellers) have no clue Ford offered these puppies for trucks.

One has to be an old phart like myself and...buying one a these rolling piles of misery new is a big help (as was working as a partsman back then), to know this crappola.

Lotsa luck finding the part numbers in the truck parts catalogs. There was a separate accessory section (not on the CD version), and us partsguys had accessory catalogs we used at the parts counter, had 100's of things y'all prolly never heard of...or have ever seen.

How about a canvas convertible top for 1964/66 long (correct) bed Stylesides? No, I'm not kidding!

This is what Ford called it, but it was actually a fold up/down camper shell...came with a isinglass porthole you could look outta.

I'll look up the part numbers for those mirrors, post them, see if anyone has them.

btw Mr. Wilson, I have the '65/66 parts counter accessory catalogs (lotsa luck finding any), so ifin you come to the next F100 Western Nats, I'll bring 'em along...so you can take a look-see.

I figured they made a day/night mirror for these trucks, since I have one that came out of a '61 Econoline I had a while back. Mounting screw holes are in different locations, though. Also, I have one of each of the Falcon type mirrors that were mentioned, but I've run into the same issue with those, and I do not want to drill more holes in the truck. As to the engine, according to the VIN, it is a 300 Six. '66 was the second year for the 300, according to my information.

What mounting screw holes?

The truck non day/nite mirror threads onto the mirror bracket, as do the day/nite mirrors.

AFAIK, there were no chrome day/nite mirrors that came as a one piece assembly (including the bracket). This only applied to the black day/nite mirrors introduced in 1967.

I installed one a these day/niters just after buying my '65 F100 branny new, cuz the headlamp glare caused by that flat back window was a pain in the backside.
