I bought a set of Vintage Reproduction Mirrors today. They are just like the small round mirrors Ford used from 55 through 66. The ones that insert through the doors.
The issue I am having is that I cannot get the right side mirror to come in enough to see anything of use. It is looking to the right side of the lane beside me about 20 ft back. I would assume this was an issue with the mirror being after market, but I had a set of the same insert brackets with pipes, and the mirror heads you can buy at any auto parts store, and had the same issue. So has anyone else seen this issue? The only thing I have for an idea is get the outer edge of the bracket to move out or to put a large blind spot mirror over the whole thing so I can use it.
I have the same mirrors with the same problem. Does anyone have these installed and can see something useful out of the right side? I've tried all sorts of different adjustments and haven't found one that works.
I have them on my truck and don't have any problems with them. it took a lot of adjusting to get them right I had to raise the arm and turn the mirror head. if you are trying to make them work by looking through the side door glass I could never make that work, you end up looking through the wing window. I don't know if thats the way the originals were but it works for me.

I had the same problem, until I adjusted it up higher and look at it now through the wind wing, instead of through the window. I tried loosening the set screw, and pulling the shaft out a bit as garbz suggested, but that makes no difference as the mirror hits against the Shaft, not the support bracket, so messing with the set screw is no help. It is not the best set up but in the raised position it works fine. One point though, the point where the shaft attaches to the mirror is offset from center, and you have to have the widest part away from the body of the truck. It does make a difference!, so put the arm up high and then rotate the mirror around on the shaft until the widest part is at about the 2 o'clock position when looking at the mirror glass itself. That should be a pretty good starting point. Good luck!
I'll be ordering one for the driver's side soon, but I'll skip the passenger's side mirror and just rely on the fact that it is super-easy to look out the big back window on my shorty and see what I need to see in the next lane on that side.
BroomfieldBum (and the rest of you guys who've bought these mirrors)....what is yall's impression of the quality?
Shortwide, I like the quality. It seems to be a well constructed mirror.
To speak to the adjustment issues I have thought of putting a blind spot mirror over the regular glass. It would give me what I want, and wouldn't change the look.
The cosmetic quality is excellent. I've had mine for about 10 years now and they're not rusting yet. Mine's a daily driver and spends a lot of time in the rain. If I can get the passenger side mirror adjusted, then the functional quality will be excellent, too.

The repro parts sellers are using a 1955 part number for this mirror, but these mirrors are actually the 1961/66 style which replaced the 1955/60 style.
1955/60 was different as the head was shaped differently (was not hooded). The head could be replaced separately, and it had more adjustment.
These mirrors look nice but are next to worthless for seeing anything.
